Do you think there would be any fan-backlash to Disney's woke 2023 "re-imagining" of The Little Mermaid if it was called "Ciara of the Sea"?

"Ciara of the Sea," the original story of a black mermaid in 2023.

I just brought up this point in another post.

I said how the outrage from Disney's super-sh*tty-looking "'remake'" of The Little Mermaid comes from all the implications of "white people and Danish culture" being "problematic" and that "black people are superior to whites."

And the fact that they are calling this woke abortion "The Little Mermaid" even though it will not follow the same story and the lead character will not have a love interest or any positive feelings towards a man (cause women liking men, is also "problematic and sexist" and junk.)

My point is, they race-swapped a beloved Disney character, implied that white people are "bad," and are going to change the entire story around and not even have it be a love story anymore. Yet are calling it "The Little Mermaid."

IF THIS WAS A WHOLLY ORIGINAL STORY NOT LINKED TO THE DANISH FAIRY TALE AND WAS NAMED 'CIARA OF THE SEA,' DO YOU THINK PEOPLE WOULD STILL BE ANGRY AT THIS MOVIE?

I don't think they would. Which also means, it's not race that's the issue here.

"You can't get 'acceptance and tolerance for other races' by destroying other races/culture in the process or implying other races are inferior and we need to 'fix the wrongs of the past' by blackwashing and race-swapping established beloved characters for no good reason.

It's not even the race-swap that's the issue. It's the fact this is another sh*tty remake of a Disney movie no one wanted, and this time, they're not even going to bother to properly remake it. If it's not even a remake, it completely defeats the purpose of even calling it 'The Little Mermaid.' If this was called 'Ciara of the Sea' or something, there would be no outrage at all. No one would go see it cause EVERYTHING from Disney sucks nowadays. But there'd be no outrage and you wouldn't have to knock down another character in order to prop up a black female one."

It's what they should've done, but movie studios are lazy and greedy. They try to capitalize off of pre-existing characters and change her race because they know that even people being pissed off about it is going to get attention.

Ciara Of The Sea definitely make's a lot more sense. It's creating a new idol for little black girls and increasing their representation to all kids watching without cancelling and replacing the original Little Mermaid.

Honestly I think it would be beautiful. The characters you showed were lovely.

I never like the story the frog prince the only black non "princess" in Disney I thought it was bullshit the only black princess they gave us had to be poor and work from the bottom up... She didn't even get to be a real princess. I honestly thought it was rather racist.

I mean, to be fair, NO ONE talks about Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Like AT ALL! She's long been forgotten about. Perhaps cause she was too sexualized. Or maybe cause filthy, slutty gypsy girls just aren't "Disney friendly." Also, Megara from Hercules doesn't get much hype, either. And of the "approved" princesses, Pocahontas is on the bottom of the list. I don't think race has to do with it. It probably (used to) come down to just straight-up merchandise sales. Maybe Tiana, Meg and Pocahontas didn't sell enough swag.

I should have clarified I think a NEW mermaid character/tale would be nice. I just saw the trailer I have such mix emotions! Its rather frustrating.

The woman in this video is beautiful. She has an amazing personality. I have no doubt she will make an amazing Ariel however I feel she was short handed and deserved a better role. What pisses me off is I feel disney is taking an easy way out by taking this film and adding a woman of color as the actress. This is supposed to make up for the fact they have not given a woman of color a proper princess role? Thats Bullshit. It's what they did to Brandy in Cinderella. They should have made a whole new movie and created a new princess and given this woman an amazing strong brave and smart character like they did when creating brave or frozen. The only "princess" of color they gave us had the crappiest princess story... In the princess and the frog. Tell me why none of the white princesses had to end up poor and working from the bottom up to make a living? Our only color princess and she doesn't even get what all the other white princesses get... Riches and power. Our only color princess ends up having to clean cook and work for a living... Racist much Disney? Damn if you were finally giving us another color princess you should have made a new film and a new character! They should have did some sort of continuation of the amazing character Uma or have a new mermaid tale Completely and different from the Ariel story. THIS IS A Cop out just to say they are involving woman of color. FOR HEAVENS SAKES MAKE US A REAL ORIGINAL NEW STRONG PRINCESS OF COLOR WITH HER OWN ADVENTURE AND STORY... this just feels like disney gave a woman of color a handy down dress... Here you go its used but better than anything you ever owned before... Thanks a lot disney 🙄 No doubt this young woman is amazingly talented I just can't help the mixed emotions. I'm proud of her talents but angry Disney didn't give her a whole new character.
