Prompted by a discussion on the Crusader Kings forum, I watched the first episode of Magnificent Century (Muhteşem Yüzyıl, with fancy diacritics I don't know how to use). While having some distinctly soap opera-y elements, I found it intriguing and enjoyable, with good production values. I was eager for more- only to find out that only the first episode had been subtitled in English. Now, granted, translation is hard work, but if you can go from Turkish to Chinese, you should have somebody on staff that can go from Turkish to English. We're one of, if not THE, biggest TV market in the world, and it's subtitling, not a full redubbing; come one, Turkey.
Years later, I would happen to catch (while looking up something totally unrelated) that it was being subtitled for an American television network. "Sweet!" I thought. But that network? Telemundo Fox. Which is in Spanish. SO close...
