Anybody here know anything about ham radio? Anyone have experience using it? How should I prepare for my licensure exam? Are there clubs I can join?

I’m getting into ham radio. I had a friend show me it once. So I got some books from the library and read up about it.

I’m still confused about how Dxing works though and I don’t really know what morse code is either.

I’m wondering how I should study for my licensure exam and if there are any ham radio clubs in my area that I might be able to join.

And also what radio I should get. I’m mainly just looking to kinda chill and talk to people from all over the world.

I’d also like to be able to tune into Radio Moscow or any other larger networks where I can listen to music and stuff.

My brother has a UK full licence. There are usually ham radio clubs throughout US and UK. Probably in Europe, too. They will guide you as to how to go about it. In UK, there is RSGB and in US there is ARRL (I think that is correct).

Get yourself a cheap communications receiver. One capable of SSB reception.

There are Morse tutoring progs available for most OS's. My bruv used one for Android on his tablet.

DXing is just a matter of squeezing as much out of your rig, as long as you don't excede power limits for the band you are working on and your own licence allows.

You could start off with a CB rig. Many hams start there in UK.

I just took my General exam and am planning on taking the Extra exam in February. I am using a study option called Hamtestoline. It is a pay to use, but not very expensive. I am sure that there are Ham Groups in your area. Just research the internet to find them. Good luck!
