Why do actors and actresses audition for roles they hate?

I was chatting with a guy I had never met before and I said I did not want to work at McDonalds and his response is, "you have to start somewhere." My classmates father was a CEO but he begin his career as a factory worker and got promoted over time. He was once a minimum wage guy who got up at 5 in the morning each day to do his factory job. Later he was so rich that even his cottage was bigger than a mansion.

So what you're saying is that we have to start somewhere even if we don't like that "somewhere"?

It depends on your goal. Some people hate bad beginnings so they work as ESL tutors. Its a comfortable and relaxing job but you never get promoted and never make big money. My cousin worked 14 hour days and cried from depression over how hard she had to work. Now she has over 100 employees in New York and she works in multiple cities.

If they're younger and starting out, they're trying to get noticed. It could lead somewhere else.

If they're more experienced, then they could be legally obligated or because they need the paycheck. Acting is still a job.
