What are your feelings about Alex Baldwin being charged for involuntary manslaughter during the filming of the movie "Rust?

Somehow, a loaded gun with a real bullet was handed to Baldwin while filming on the set more than a year ago. The bullet accidentally killed Halyna Hutchins, one of the cinematographers on the set. What are your feelings about the charges? My feelings are that he did not intentionally kill the director, and that there should be more investigation on how the loaded gun got on the set before anyone was charged.

Proper gun usage, means you should be checking it yourself each time.

If it wasn't a film set and someone handed a gun to someone, should they check it or just trust that whoever handed it to them did it correctly?

Film set is irrelevant as that is a way to say someone didn't do their job.

Sadly if any of the people who handled this gun before handing it to him and including him had checked it, then no one would of died.

The question becomes who exactly is at fault for the death of another person? As it is not simply a "oops my bad" accident.

It would still have to go to trial, they may also try to plead down to lesser charges, I doubt he'll do any jail time but what bothers me the most about this, is he acts like it was never him all along, that he didn't pull the trigger, that it just went off. Despite the investigation showing there is no way it could of gone off without it being pulled.

When someone dies, someone should be charged with a crime, be a gun or a car. Taking a life, even accidently isn't just a simply mistake where people should walk away without any penalty.

Sure, he's an actor. But- obviously it was intentional if there was a "live" gun on the set. By whom, no one knows. Usually this doesn't happen because no live guns are supposed to be left on sets. It was up to the examiner to test it--and somehow that went awry.

The actor replied, "No. Someone is responsible for what happened, and I can't say who that is, but I know it's not me. I mean, honest to God, if I felt that I was responsible, I might have killed myself if I thought I was responsible. I don't say that lightly."

He has denied that he is responsible and that he never pulled the trigger, thus not taking responsibility for it.

@aerissa_jade I agree, the gun should always be checked. I was taught in gun safety, that as soon as you are handed a gun, or pick up a gun, the first thing you do is open the action and make sure it isn't loaded. If not, you have to assume it is loaded. END OF STORY. Even if the person handing you the gun checks it, when you take it, then you look also. And you don't point it towards other people.

I beleive he meant that he denied responsibilty because he does not know--was not in charge of--whoever gave him a live gun. He is just the actor playing the part in the film. He was given the gun. The same amanology could be applied if I gave you a gun which I thought contained dummy bullets. If you fired at someone and killed them--I would think you would not be at fault----I would think whoever gave me a gun that was loaded with real bullets, was to blame.

dont get me wrong it was also the fault of the guy in charge of props but it’s also Alex’s fault as well for playing with a gun as if it was a toy and pretending to shoot people thinking it was safe because he though it was unloaded or because there were blanks in it.

1# Always make sure the gun is unloaded

2# Even if the gun has the safety on or is unloaded never point you weapon at someone ever. The only time you ever point your weapon at someone is if you plan on pulling the trigger because otherwise accidents happen.

I've seen children under the age of 10 handle guns more safely and competently then Alex Baldwin.

And it doesn’t matter that it was an accident he killed some due to a negligent discharge caused by the unsafe handling of a firearm. Hence the involuntary manslaughter.

From what i understand He was a pretty adamant anti gun advocate so I suspect this is just the pro gun people on the police force trying to rub his nose in it. He'll likely be acquitted if that's the case.

Outside of any conspiracies that I don't know about, I find it difficult to believe those charges would stand for him, or if they do I think that's kinda problematic. He was handed a gun that he had no reason to think was loaded. I don't think that would be negligent of him, but might depend on the argument.

Mixed feelings. On one hand, I don’t think there was any malice involved here. It was a tragic accident. Staff on set are supposed to check and double check these weapons so the actors, who in many cases have never handled a real gun, don’t have to. On the other, the facts here may fit the definition of involuntary manslaughter under New Mexico law and I’m sure the family wants someone held accountable. I’m just glad I won’t have to sit on that jury and decide.

I think it makes sense to have this resolved in court, not in the media nor in some back room. If the evidence shows that he was given a loaded gun when it should have been unloaded, then he'll be found not guilty.

He was just an actor. The Armory should have insured the gun had no live bullets, not Baldwin. I don’t think it will ever go to trial.

It already has? He's been charged as well as the person in charge of handing him the gun, and they will continue with it to come up with a verdict soon.
