+1 yFunny story;
I accidently read the book... sort of. I heard a plug about the release of a "psychological thriller" called 50 Shades of Grey. So, I went to the tiny little mom & pop bookstore in my tiny little Snobville town and asked for the book.
The two ladies behind the counter let their mouths hang open before gathering their composure and pulling the book out from a hidden place behind the counter and putting it in a brown paper bag. I was baffled by their behavior.
I got in my car, took the book out of the bag, and flipped it over to read the back cover. There it was at the bottom, "Romance." Darn! Eew. I have zero interest in romance novels. I felt duped and debated returning the book.
I brought it home and decided to give it a shot. Whoa!!! Ok, so it really was a psychological thriller, but it had some bdsm thrown in there. I couldn't put the book down and finished it in 2 days. I could have done without the sexual descriptions, but the psychological aspect was suspenseful.
I suppose people don't like it because they try to judge the story as if it's a documentary of some kind. It's fiction people.
I haven't seen the movie.

Sex stories and erotica are much better read than seen. I would not recommend you to even watch it.
- +1 y
@The_Shadow_Dweller I think the films were good 🤷🏻‍♀️
- +1 y
@The_Shadow_Dweller Yeah, I'm not into erotica and don't watch porn. Personally, I think the book would have been a lot better if the sex was left out.
- +1 y
I cannot imagine the series without the sex part. Because the guy's aunt had introduced him to BDSM, and not surprisingly, he thought of sex accordingly. In that manner. It was because of Anastasia, that his mind began to redesign itself.
She was like a ray of hope in his life. The one and only. As far as I can tell. - +1 y
@The_Shadow_Dweller Right, the story is fine without the detaiiled sex. Every once in a while, the story stops only to describe the sex.
- +1 y
Oh... okay! I understood your point now. And yes, I agree with you. Now that I understand it.
Detailed scenes were not needed. Just the mention of them could work as well. Unnecessary detailed scenes were there.
I agree with you. - +1 y
@The_Shadow_Dweller Sorry, I should have been clearer. I can use my own imagination about the sex details. lol. I just wanted to get back to the story.

+1 y50 Shades of Grey is basically an adult Twilight book, as both show abusive relationships. The good thing about bad books is that they show us what not to do. For 50 Shades, that's BDSM relationships and how you shouldn't treat your partner. I think people are more worried about BDSM and kink in general being viewed in a bad lens or others misunderstanding what the actual relationship dynamics are (as well as rules).

50 Shades of Grey is awesome second only to the Twilight series and ahead of the After series. it's up there with TV shows like The Vampire Diaries
what is there is hate about these stories when there are hot bad boys who get away with doing bad shit because they're hot?

I liked Twilight as well.
Didn't stop the book from selling 125 million copies worldwide, women more into it than men.

When I first saw BDSM, I thought it was weird. I thought, why would anyone want to get physically abused to a certain degree to get pleasure?
But I hung on to it. Rather than leaving it. I searched the the behaviour, the motivation for the behaviour.
I can understand it. And if my partner wants, I don't have any problem with it.
It is essentially the same as getting a sense of satisfaction when seeing blood, for me. - +1 y
I think abuse is very different in that it's not consensual. Also, not all people want to be hit to the point of making them bleed.
- +1 y
Correct. This is the exact difference I found. BDSM is not abuse. It is consensual. And only till mutually decidee limit.
I frequently get injured. It is like a habit for me lol! So I developed a liking for blood over time.
+1 yBecause it glorifies a jack ass psychopath who would rather do deranged things to a woman instead of love her and cherish her. There is nothing normal or healthy about BDSM and all the variants that people like to role-play in the bedroom. There is nothing loving about violence or restraining someone with ropes, or torture with devices during sex! I find it interesting and yet hypocritical that in a world where so much is made of rape, incest, and sexual battery, just to name a few, that people are just fine with doing role-play and mock up scenarios of the very thing society supposedly dislikes!

Why do you feel BDSM is unhealthy? It's not a scientific fact.
I have not seen the movie or read book.
But I know some women (not all) do want to be tied up, and beaten. And infact are unhappy if you don't do it to them. And some guys are lucky to find those women.

+1 yI don’t though, granted the bdsm community isn’t to happy with it. I feel if you leave out the inaccuracies and how bdsm plays into it, it’s a good story and tbh interesting

+1 yHate is too strong. People dislike 50 Shades of Grey because they are disappointed, and jealous, that it's not about them.

+1 yI heard it's a twilight fanfic that romanticizes all sorts of abuse. But I've never read it and don't plan to, so that could be inaccurate. Sounds about right if it is like the twilight movies though.

+1 yBecause it falsely shows bdsm, is romanticizing borderline abuse and manipulation and is legally fucked up.

@babygirl_s I also don't think BDSM is unhealthy when done correctly. However the way it's shown in the films is incorrect and is unhealthy. He is coping with his trauma by traumatizing other people. Not healthy bdsm.
+1 yI watched it and read the books... I just didn't get why it got so popular... it had no substance it was just shallow and moronic.. I don't hate it but I wouldn't say it was good either..
10 Reply2K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. Bad writing, shit depiction of bdsm and dom/sub relationships, and I swear grey is trying to induct her into a cult

u +1 yBecause it gives a false idea of what BDSM is. It makes it seem abusive and controlling, when really BDSM is a beautiful, intimate & consensual experience shared between a dom and a sub.

+1 yMy only criticism was the casting of the character, Christian Grey. So a handsome billionaire is able to corrupt a young woman? Ya think? Wow, what a long shot.

It is a heterosexual couple.
- +1 y
Still gay!
Lol, I'm kidding. I don't even know what 50 shades is. All I know is the Weeknd did a song for it and all the girls got wet for him
Because it's porn trying to be passed off as a profound story.
12 Reply- +1 y
That and it’s degrading and giving credibility to or glorifying psychotic acts in the bedroom that are not based on love but rather abusive role-playing. It’s not reality or normal behavior when you truly love and respect someone
+1 yBecause if it weren't for the subject matter, which women reacted to like teenage girls at a Beatles concert, the film would have been a complete flop.

+1 yThe book... its Twilight fanfiction! For real (google it). Which means is a badly written sex story based on a badly written teenage vampire story.
The movie... Poorly casted, poorly acted. Deeply not sexy, over hyped piece of trash00 Reply- 1.4K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic.
