Some of the very best new music can be found on sites like Bandcamp, but you have to look for it. It won't come to you.

For myself, I find that most new music I just don't relate to. I just find most of the music today, is opposed to almost everything I believe in socially and sexually.

I find that the music, from my childhood and hanging out years bring back pleasant memories for the most part,

I think nostalgia has a lot to do with it, listening to music you recall growing up with and not changing that much.

I will check out Bandcamp though, kind of nice to listen to some new tunes while driving.

I wonder this every time someone older goes on a whole rant about “music nowadays is garbage blah blah!” lol. that’s because they just listen to snippets bubble gum pop or SoundCloud rap that comes on the radio and they assume that it’s all bad. But there’s so many artists who make incredible music nowadays.

It takes time and we often as adults and people raising family don't bother to put in any time.

I still explore new music, and I'm getting pretty old. That's not to say I like all new music, but I like to check out new music genres, new artists, etc. and then decide if I liek ti or not.

Plus, sometimes discovering old music is new. For example, when younger, I had no desire to listen to classical music. Now that I'm older, I've developed a like for some, not all, classical music. Ravel's Bolero, Pachebel's Canon in D... two of my favorites that I only learned about as I got older.

I luckily didn't, though I don't necessarily explore the newest music :D I don't follow trends in general, the age of a song doesn't matter to me..

Still many classic albums I did not hear yet. Finding a 'new' tune that hits something inside is amazing! I don't think I will ever stop exploring :)

I used to download new music periodically and sample it. It was a discouraging process for me, because everything I liked sounded like a re-tread of something older that I liked. I grew up listening to the parents 60's, 70, s, 80's, 90's stuff and I loved so much of it, especially the 60's-70's. By the time the 2000's hit, it seemed mostly like a wasteland with a few good bands.

Now it's mostly pop garbage, looped or synth shit. I never liked rap, but loved old R&B, and no one is doing that now who doesn't sound like, well, old R&B !! But I'm always ready to be surprised by something new but isn't sampled and remixed with the exact tracks from old songs and posing as "new".

If you have some good recommendations, please send to me - anything BUT rap, boy/girl band pop or death metal, please!

When we are in school and even college we have a much more communal expertise with friends and more time to go to concerts and listen to new music. After college we get jobs and the time starts to be filled with other things and also our communities tend to shrink and become more diverse in ages and cultures as we find networking in coworkers and hobbies

Paul Simon summarized this aspect of getting older:

I'm not the kind of man
    Who tends to socialize
    I seem to lean on
    Old familiar ways
And I ain't no fool for love songs
    That whisper in my ears
Still crazy after all these years
Oh still crazy after all these years

I stopped exploring new music when spotify came around, before that i downloaded lots of music just because the genre interested me.

Now spotify is really really bad at recommending new stuff i might like, they collect hundreds of GB of data and can't even manage to inform me when a new album is released, a new band i may like is completely out of their range.

Less focus on experimentation. More focus on enjoying what you know you enjoy. Living the life, essentially.

But at least some experimentation should be there, I say. Things keep changing, repeating. We need to be in the flow.

I was never very big on music exploration; I just never cared enough about what I was listening to to make note of it or put any time into finding new stuff to listen to. It's not something I enjoy doing. Spotify has been a godsend for me! lol If not for Spotify radio stations, I don't think I would ever listen to anything new.

I've always been like that though.

I don't, but I also do not like the way autotune usually sounds so I am generally not impressed by what I hear on radio. Still, you are correct. There is a ton of talent out there that, unfortunately, is not easy to find. Maybe that is an idea for a Topic? Undiscovered Talent.

I listen to anything catchy that comes on the radio or music video channel. I love all genres from all generations, just not every song.

We have more ways to find new music these days, but there's also more music to go through and less time to do so.

Because older people don't have the time or desire to search for new music. Just ask my grandparents. They got what they like and don't want anything else.

I really tried to listen to current music but it is repetitive and really not very good lyrics wise. Maybe the music we listened to when we were growing up will alway be special because we associate it with that era.

Our minds connect music that we loved when young to emotions and feelings. Listening to that music brings back many of the feelings and memories. New stuff doesn't.

I love listening to a variety of music including new music. It would be nice if there were stations (e. g. Sirius) that had channels that played a wide variety.
