I don't believe those stats at all. America just reports better on what is happening and has better policing of its citizens to catch a serial killer. You could probably operate as a serial killer in other countries very easily and never get caught or even raise suspicion.

Nope, because these serial kills have always been out there on the fringe. They did not need a book or movie to tell them how to dispose of a body.
