It's based on a modern character who finds themselves in another time period.

Pick the period that a) you know the most about (it'll be easier to write) and b) that has events you want the character to interact with. Each of the decades you named had VASTLY different events and culture and technology. Each could be fun or amazing.
Personally? I'd pick the 1920s for that character. The Roaring Twenties. The Great War was over. Technology was on the rise. Money flowed freely and taxes hadn't killed everything yet. WWII not yet on the horizon. Fashion was amazing. You had some airplanes but travel was still by ship. So many options.
You just describing that makes me excited to write about it, for me researching is one of the best bits. I'll do plenty before writing so I'll really have the knowledge no matter the time period.
Best wishes! My personal advice from being in the middle of writing right now: write about what you know and like. You'll enjoy the process so much more.
I said 1940s. Having a modern times person going back in time at the beginning of WWII knowing what we know now. If they know their history they could change the outcome of the war… but would it change to the better? Or would it cause the enemy forces to change strategy to one that allows them to win. Butterfly effect, change 1 little thing and big things can change in the future.
Wasn't expecting helpful advice too, so thanks. That type of storyline could really add depth to the plot.
Sorry… I talk to much sometimes…. My brain is idle way too much of the time. I am always thinking of stories to write (even though I have no writing skills) I do have good story creation skills.
Don't be, I totally understand. Sometimes I feel like I write really well and other times I really have to push myself to get something good. I have a lot of unwritten ideas, hopefully this one won't become one of them.
