The small Long Beach Philharmonic Orchestra used to come to my elementary school once a year. I saw them play concerts at parks, too.

Aside from that, the first concert I ever saw was Sons of the Pioneers at the Knott's Berry Farm Covered Wagon Amphitheater with my parents when I was maybe 10 or 12 years old. They were so good that I had a hard time believing that they were playing that music themselves and not using some sort of trickery. LOL

I started high school in the fall of 1969. I lived in the Los Angeles area.

In early 1970, right after I turned 16 and got my driver's license, and new friend asked if I wanted to go to go see Jimi Hendrix at the L. A. Forum. I was tentative about driving through downtown L. A. and had never been to a concert, so I passed and said I'd catch him the next time he toured. He died a few months later. It's of my biggest regrets.

Shortly after the Hendrix concert, my friend asked if I wanted to go to another concert. This time, I said yes. So the first concert I ever attended was Stevie Wonder opening for Sly and the Family Stone at the Forum. I was blown away.

Shortly after that, I went to see Grand Funk Railroad at the Long Beach Auditorium. We got inside a couple minutes late and the opening band had already started. Come to find out, it was Black Sabbath. Holy shit! There had never been a sound like that before.

I saw Yes open for Deep Purple.

I wound up going to close to one concert a week throughout the decade of the 70s. And most of them featured at least 2 or 3 amazing bands. Outdoor arena concerts weren't even a thing yet. I saw the Who a few times, and every tour of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, ELP, Aerosmith, Wings, Yes, Eric Clapton, Santana, and others.

At some point, I saw Heart, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Jefferson Starship at a daytime, festival-style concert at UC Santa Barbara football stadium. Heart was brand new. Lynyrd Skynyrd had just released Free Bird. Jefferson Starship was brand new and almost all of the original Airplane members were on stage with them.

I went to concerts in auditoriums, clubs and casinos all around the L. A. and Orange County area and from San Diego to Santa Barbara. The best bands and artists ever. I couldn't even name a fraction. To quote Batty in The Blade Runner, "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe." LOL

I went to the Don Kirchner Presents concerts in Long Beach.

I went to Cal Jam 1 in 1974.

I went to the No Nukes concert at the Rose Bowl in 1982 and had a pass to the celebrity brunch.

I'd say that I've been to at least 2000 concerts in my life and seen over 5000 top artists perform.
