What makes you so sure they're single? How do you know if it's just a woman by herself to see a movie (maybe her boyfriend/husband didn't want to see the movie, or their schedules didn't match up), or it's just a couple (or a group) of female friends watching a movie together?
As an example: back in January I went to see a movie twice about a week apart, and both times the exact same woman sat right next to me on my left side (due to assigned seating). Both times she was by herself and she was very pretty. The second time we actually wound up chatting a bit about the movie before the commercials started, but during our short chat she just came off as being kind, warm and personable. She also seemed to be very perceptive too; laughing at minor jokes and little details that most other people in the audience didn't seem to catch or understand; there was also a dramatic scene in the movie, and when it happened I had a quick scan around me and she was the only one with tears in her eyes, which impressed me as her having a caring and compassionate heart. I have to admit, I'd be lying if I said she didn't make my heart pitter-patter a little faster.
Anyway, after the end of the movie when the lights came back on, she turned her phone back on and within about 5-10 seconds her phone rang and up came an image on her screen of her together with what looked to be her boyfriend/husband. She was already taken. I had no intentions to make a move on her at all, or even to say anything more to her other than maybe to smile and say: "Thanks for the chat. Take care!" But I only mention all of this because you just never know if someone is single or not. Even if she is alone.
The way I look at it is, it's generally better to err on the side of caution and consideration for her own wishes to not be hit on by guys, and to just not bother women you don't know, unless some kind of interaction or conversation naturally arises or something. If you're interested in someone, there are little things you can do to see how receptive a girl is to chatting with you, but it's best to not be too blunt or tactless about it. Let alone being insistent and/or demanding of their time and attention if they don't want to chat. Every situation is different, but bottom line: just don't assume anything.
wait but after the film speak with a group or one about your common interests
Not sure, but Id leave them alone.
