I'll post the original for comparison

Both the same... as a dude that plays guitar and this song... they added a lot to it. Pretty kick ass still.
I know this is blasphemous, but I never saw anything impressive about that song. I always found it incredibly boring and pointless and think it's among one of their worst hits.
Someone on the bluegrass version commented that it's the best version they've ever heard, and I agree with that person. I just wished the singer had used a microphone. But the extra instruments, slightly altered riffs and extra speed, really add a lot of elements that were greatly lacking in the original.
The original was kind of dull compared to the other songs on the album. When I was a beginner guitarist though, it was the only song on the album I could actually play. Slow and simple enough for me to grasp it.
I imagine it was one of those songs that bands tend to write just to fill some space or meet the demands of a contract.
Those are called "throw away" tracks, but I'm pretty sure this isn't one, because those are usually last on the album, and they never become hits or get played on the radio. I think it was just a bad song. If I was to phanom a guess, I would say that, "The Call of Ktulu" was the throwaway track on that album
I'm not sure what the tracks are called but I wasn't referring to the throwaway tracks. You might know what I'm talking about though, so I'll try to explain it...
You know those songs they seem to make with limited cussing, catchy or more repetitive than usual, usually slower and pretty simple... timing is gonna be mainly 4/4ths no matter what. It's like they're made for TV or the radio on purpose. Like from Metallica's black album, that Sandman song that pretty much everybody knows how to play... That's what I'm talking about. Oh... and they tend to be the right length no matter what like most of their song were longer, but that one... bloop, and then it's gone. lolz.
My opinion on those songs in particular are usually pretty low if I like all the other songs... otherwise those are the only songs I like and I'm not much of a fan of the rest. Not all bands or albums, but mainly the albums that feel like they're getting pumped out to fulfill their obligations and not really inspired feeling. I do recognize they're probably done all simple on purpose... made for a better general public appeal.
Oh, I know what you're talking about. I don't know if there's a special name for it though
I can't think of a name for them either lolz. I guess we could coin the term "commercial tracks" or something like that here.
They're songs that always strike me as if someone from the record label kicked the door in at the studio..."Alright you mangey cucks, according to our contract, 3 of the tracks have to be done our way or it's back to sucking dicks at the truck stop for you!!!"
As someone who enjoys both types of music, I don't like the bluegrass cover at all.
