FYI I read that the consensus best was The empire strikes back and I didn't agree and it got me to wondering what you sick sons of 🐩's of G@G thought.😂

And no I'm not talking by grosses. This is purely opinions. So let your freak flag fly.

The best would pretty much have to be Empire. A New Hope is my favorite, though; lower highs, perhaps, but higher lows- kind of a Raiders of the Lost Ark/Last Crusade situation with those two.

The worst- well, it's one of Disney's, for sure. I didn't even WATCH the last one, and the idea of me missing a Star Wars movie, and not wanting to see it, would've been unthinkable ten years ago.

Rouge One was poorly paced, not giving its characters time enough to develop, and too focused on spectacle; it didn't feel like a Star Wars movie so much as a war movie set in the Star Wars universe. But the shot of Cassian Andor killing an informant who'd just HELPED him said more about the gritty, immoral nature of war than any dialogue could've done, and Donnie Yen's Taoist attitude towards The Force was at least an interesting idea (although I'm pretty sure it's possible to be Chinese and NOT know martial arts, as well as knowing OTHER things, Hollywood). And the scene with Vader at the end, while it felt extraneous, was amazingly powerful, showing the rebels throwing everything they had at this guy and being unable to even slow him down; you could see WHY they feared him. It was easily the best movie of the bunch.

The Force Awakens was a stale retread of A New Hope, with all the soul sucked out- and something else, too. I've heard Rey described as "Kathleen Kennedy's self-insert", and it wouldn't surprise me if it was true, but all I can see is wasted potential. You've got an isolated hermit, raised by someone who sees her only as a source of profit, in a VERY rough-and-tumble frontier place on the edge of nowhere; now she's ekeing out a living salvaging the wreckage of old battles. That's the background of a potentially very interesting character- but she'd be angry, bitter, mistrustful, and manipulative; not necessarily villainous or even just a jerk, but emphatically NOT the bright, cheerful, trusting, utterly-devoid-of-character-flaws-or-personality blob we got. And that's BEFORE her inexplicable superpowers enter the scene, though even that is something you could do something interesting with: a character, raised in isolated circumstances, who knows everything and can do everything, including mastering totally new skills, quickly and effortlessly. Such a person isn't going to look on others as equals; they may seem them as weak and deserving of contempt, or flawed and in need of shepherding, but they're not going to see them as peers. And Han's death was so horribly drawn out that I half expected Linda Harrison to show up and shout "Han!" just before he got run through.

Solo was a jumbled mess; clearly the Ultima VIII of the franchise. Just tell me one thing: why did the Empire choose to guard its train (why they're using a train is another question, but leave that for now) with PROBE droids? Did the writers not know what "probe" means? Why not just create another droid? It's been done before; look at droidekas, from the prequels- they were new, and they were cool. They wouldn't work here, because they roll instead of flying, and you wouldn't want to be seen using Separatist tech, but still, were you THAT desperate for a connection to the OT?

The Last Jedi was a storytelling atrocity; clearly the Ultima IX of the franchise. "That's how we're going to win- not fighting what we hate, saving what we love", she says, after having stopped Finn from saving what he loved by destroying the cannon, as said cannon blows open the bunker in the background.

I never saw the last one, as I said; I don't even know its name. Unless it opened with sounds of struggle and battle, followed by a sudden gasping intake of breath and Luke Skywalker saying "Wake up, Mara, I just had the WORST nightmare!", it doesn't matter. Even if it DOES, it's too late; you can't get Mark, Carrie, and Harrison on camera together any more.

Oh, this is just scratching the surface. Star Wars was HUGE to me when I was a kid; I came along just in time for the prequels, but I inherited it from my brother, who was big into it in the drought between Return of the Jedi and the Phantom Menace, when it was just books, video games, and a CCG, and so while it was less cinematic and bombastic, the creativity was NUTS.

Disney killed MY interest, but also that of pretty much all the old fans. It's clear not only that they had no plans, thinking "If we put the name 'Star Wars' on it, it'll sell, no matter HOW crappy it is!", but that they had no grasp of the underlying ideas. These people clearly didn't know their Joseph Campbell, and had likely never even HEARD of Mircea Elliade.
