I went with sci-fi on that list (The Fly, Terminator, Alien, Aliens, eXistenZ, The Thing, Possessor, Re-Animator, Day of the Dead, etc). I think a lot of zombie films overlap there as potential sci-fi.

My favorite though is when horror combines with historical fiction, like VVitch, Apostle, and Ravenous.

Horror movies usually just have very boring plots. Sometimes ghost horrors can have an interesting backstory. But usually their climax just seem really predictable and don't really tend to have a goal.

But I would just say ghost and sci-fi tend to be the more creative ones of them.
