Do you read the funnies? Who is your favorite? ?

I guess that nobody reads newspapers anymore. I remember as a kid reading the comic strips in the newspapers every day. The Sunday funnies were in color and it was a big deal on Sunday to read them. I liked Beetle Bailey, Popeye, Flash Gordon, The Katzenjammer Kids and these guys.

Steve Roper and Mike Nomad

Steve Roper and Mike Nomad were two guys that worked for Proof Magazine. Roper was a reporter and Mike Nomad drove a delivery truck. They had all sorts of adventures. I guess you could not write a comic strip like this anymore.

I no longer get the newspaper, so Funnies are only in my past.

I used to read them all the time, especially on Sundays when they were big and in color. I liked Peanuts, Dilbert and The Far Side the best, though I usually read every one.

The Funnies page also had the Jumble on it, which my father always liked to do, and he taught me to like it too. It was usually a race to see who got there first.

I loved them when I was growing up. Especially the several pages of color Sunday morning comics.
Rick O'Shay was a good one. And so was Prince Valiant.
But there were a lot of good ones - Dennis the Menace, Dagwood and Blondie, Beetle Bailey, Li'l Abner, Alley Oop, Peanuts, Garfield, Pogo, ...

Ahhh, simpler times. :-)

I forgot L'Il Abner. AL Capp was really a political cartoonist although I was too little to realize it. Those strips were loaded with political satire.

This question reminded me that, in my early 20s, when my mom's father died, she said he had a big scrapbook of cartoon strips that he had cut out and saved over the years. She asked me if I wanted it and I said nah. Years later, I was sorry that I had.

It probably contained strips going back to the 1930s. No doubt some that I had never heard of. It would have given me insight into his sense of humor and political leanings.
He was an interesting guy. I wish I had been old enough to get to know him better.

Do you remember taking your Silly Putty and smashing it flat with your palms of your hands; then pressing it on your favorite comic character? It came out pretty good.

Sorry I didn't answer the question, just wondering if anyone else did that?

I read “the funny papers” every Sunday. I read every panel of every strip. They didn’t all get a laugh, but they all got my attention. My favorites as a youth were “Garfield”, “Marmaduke” and “The Peanuts”. I enjoyed many “The Far Side”, but many were too far out in left field for my taste too. Calvin and Hobbes” stole the show for me once they came along. I still own, i think, three “Calvin and Hobbes” collections in paperback. They still make me laugh out loud!
