What are your favorite disaster movies?

You know how it goes. A couple of great disaster movies come out and then every studio in the world wants to cash in on the trend. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery. It also produces a lot of unsatisfying fakes! Ell oh ell!
So which are the good ones? What are your favorite disaster movies?

Armagedon for sure. Perfectly shot, great music, great actors and though the script is very cheesey it's one of those movies that evokes an emotional response. Yiu remember when they are about to board the shuttles and the president is speaking and the little boy tells his mommy that that salesman is on tv and she says that's not a salesman that's your daddy. Or when thr independece gets hit and crashes. Great movie.

Unstoppable is another great movie. It was almost predicting the ohio train derailment. Day after tomorrow was a great one too. Daylight with stalone is a favourite though I think many have forgotten it. San Andrea's I enjoyed mostly because Alexandra Daddrido doesn't wear a bra and loses more and more clothes eventually ending up in water. Contagion is good espicially after covid, right at your door as well. The road was too real in how in depicted a post apocalypic America after ww3 with wildlife nonexistent and the sun blotted out from the sky as a remnant of humanity father& son wanders searching for food and water.

Z for Zachariah is good. A lone survivor of a radioactive Margot Robbie encounters another man and it looks like they might hit it off as a couple until Chris pune arrives one day and marggot Robbie falls for him instead which breaks the other guy's heart.

There was a movie that came out in the 70's. Someone had it on video that I saw in the early 80's I think it was called 'The Day After.' (possibly)
Nothing much happened until the very last scene of the film where a nuclear bomb went off, and you see people evaporate and turn into skeletons.. That stuck with me for a very long time!

I went down a “The Day After” rabbit hole a while back. I don’t recall exactly what inspired it but it was internet related. Someone had commented that their skool had shown it during class time. I was fascinated! Still haven’t watched the whole film yet.

That's not right.
The bombs go off midway in the film (about the 1 hour mark). That's why it's title "The Day AFTER". It's about surviving in the aftermath of the nuclear war.

I'll go with the original Godzilla from 1954 which is actually a very good film. It's considerably better and darker than the 1956 American version with Raymond Burr. Quite a few scenes in the original not in the American version. And the movie is edited differently, of course.
