They can be a healthy distraction- as long as you don't go overboard with them and know how to balance your real life as well.
Most people on here and in real life know I'm an avid gamer. I play WoW practically every evening when I get home from work, and on the weekends. But I use it as a destressor: I also go to the gym, work in my yard, listen to music... basically I have other outlets, but gaming is my "go to" to unwind as well.

I don't know if there are any studies, but they relieve stress, you achieve something, and on top of that the video game makes this achievement really clear and flashy, they structure your gameplay session, you always have a clear and achieveable goal...
All these things are also good in real life for people struggling with mental health and their life in general.
That depends what you play lol
I find myself in a worse mood after playing warzone then before I start playing it ha
