This can be a movie adaption, a screen to book adaption or just movies playing in the same "universe" as a book. The important part is, that both are good and it is worth it, to actually read and watch. A lot of times screen adaptations are good, but if you read the books it's not that good or just nothing new. I first read the book in 2020 on kindle it was really good... till I watched the movie it was better...
Like the book conveys how they feel when talking which you might not know while watching the movie... I really loved how they brought the characters to life..

The Holes movie is really the only adaptation that basically quotes the book word for word. The main difference is the character Stanley Yelnats is plus-size in the book but not in the movie. I have no issues with that one at all. It’s the most loyal adaptation I can think of.
You compare that to something like the Chronicles of Narnia, specifically the Voyage of The Dawn Treader movie versus the book and it’s 2 completely different stories that just happen to share characters of the same name. What was a story of self-discovery alongside plenty of christian metaphors turned into this collection-mission-based narrative that really didn’t have a place at all.
I liked both the movie and book versions of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "Nimona". They were very different between book and movie, but kept key similarities, so both are good as their own stories as well as adaptations.
Oh yes I totally agree. In the book he even says, that book, radio show and movie are different versions of the story but the improbability drive makes them different to each other. Basically each is a "what if" version of the other.
