What is a trope in movies that will make you shut it off when you see it on screen?

When the main character is already perfect and needs no character development. This mainly happens with female mc's. The trope for that is called Mary Sue. Basically it's a strong empowered woman who need only throw off the shackles that are holding her back, and she is already perfect. It causes the characters to be one dimensional, which also causes the rest of the movie to just be terrible.

Almost every single female lead super hero movie in the last decade has been like that. And most of them have very poor audience ratings as a result.

She hulk is one. Captain marvel is another. Oh and the live action mulan is another, at least when compared to the animated original.

There are some male versions of this, but none come to mind.

And trust me I love me a good strong female lead character, like for example captain janeway from voyager, Ellen Ripley from alien. Hunger games is another. Dana scully from X Files. And so on. I absolutely love a well done female main character.

You already listed probably the worst trope in my opinion, but another common one is inserting modernisms into historical stories or fantasy settings. I would also include censoring or revising history in the name of modern sensibilities.

You hit the nail on the head with Mulan, too. The animated version showed a lot of growth and grit, while the live-action one missed that emotional journey. It's all about making characters feel real, whether they're superhuman or not.
