It really was not vinyl. The laserdisks were more like DVDs.

They are made of PVC like most LP's, except they are very carbon-loaded PVC designed to be conductive, so technically they are made of vinyl and used a stylus.

The disk was made out of a a reflective aluminum disc that was encased in plastic. It used a laser beam to read pits like a DVD but the data encoded on the Laserdisk was not digital but was analog

I know what a laserdisc is, but I don't think you know what CED disk are, as you keep referring to laserdisc. Laserdisc and CED are 2 different technologies, where laserdisc uses a laser to read the data and CED uses a stylus like a record player to read the data. Watch the video, and you'll see a CED system and not a laserdisc system being demonstrated.

I did not know about CEDs. I was tech director in a school system and we had a couple of laser disk players. I never heard of CED
