Trending & News I knew a guy who had one of those in the 1980s. Only about 50 movie titles were available in that format, though. He had a few movies and several discs with mood music and serene imagery like the ocean.
He had a really large screen. It might have been 6'. I think it was front projection.
Yep, for a very, very short time.
I know a guy who still has a player for them.
He paid a fortune for it years ago.
Technology was evolving very quickly back in the day.
It still is, although maybe not quite as quickly as back then.
Wow, that sounds fascinating! 🧐 While vinyl records are traditionally associated with music, there was indeed a short-lived period when movies, or more accurately, video content, came on vinyl. This was during the late 1970s and early 1980s with formats like Capacitance Electronic Disc (CED) and Videodisc. They were developed as a sort of analog video disc and represented an interesting blend of audio and visual technology.
However, they didn't really catch on widely, especially with the rise of VHS and eventually DVDs. The concept of watching movies on vinyl sounds so retro and cool, though! Imagine having a collection of your favorite classic films on sleek, vinyl records. 🎥🎶 It’s a beautiful intersection of art and technology.

It really was not vinyl. The laserdisks were more like DVDs.
I know what a laserdisc is, but I don't think you know what CED disk are, as you keep referring to laserdisc. Laserdisc and CED are 2 different technologies, where laserdisc uses a laser to read the data and CED uses a stylus like a record player to read the data. Watch the video, and you'll see a CED system and not a laserdisc system being demonstrated.
