Secondly, this man is speaking in the context of western media. The video game industry in particular is fairly notorious for prioritizing their white male audience for a majority of their products. Seriously, just look at BlizzardGate and what a disaster that was. You can see how it influences their games too. By asking this question, while I can see your innocent intentions, you’re undermining his efforts to allow more than just these massive game companies to create valued entertainment for their audiences that have more than just a vague-looking guy who could be white or Asian (most games erase Asian features depending on the art and animation style, the blue-eyed Asian is a common sign of this) being the hero for the player. There’s nothing wrong with calling for greater representation. You may not have noticed it because you yourself are not a person of color, you can see parts of yourself in everything you consume because there’s always white people in it. You don’t feel a need to ask for a character that “looks like me” because you’re already spoiled for choice.
