That all depends on if it gets in the way of more important things. I personally don't play them anymore. I am too busy generally trying to finish my masters degree. When I am not focusing on school I am either spending time with my girlfriend, doing chores around our place, going out with friends or working. There are just so many things I can be doing other than sitting there playing a game. There is nothing wrong with them if you have the downtime to play them. It is like anything else that people do as hobbies or activities when they have freetime. I just prefer to spend my time in other ways. People that spend their time playing games is fine if that is what they like doing. As long as it doesn't get in the way of the important things in life then there is no problem with them.

Depends on the game, puzzle games can help different parts of the brain, violent video games reduce urges for physical violence, all are made for entertainment, a good chunk are used for escapism. Truthfully, it only becomes a problem when done to excess, like anything we consume. So everything in moderation and you’ll be fine.

They can improve reasoning and problem solving in you brain.

There was even an instance where a man who played a racing sim was able to set a faster laptime than an actual racing driver around a real track.

Certain games are very good for your brain, they can be good for your mental health by providing a safe outlet for anger and aggression.

But some are certainly just mindless and have no use.

I don't know if they are good or bad for you, but it's just another form of entertainment.  Maybe 20 hours a day, 7 days a week might be excessive, but in moderation why not?

I personally enjoy gaming. But it’s in moderation. It doesn’t take up a large portion of my life and I’m capable of prioritizing other tasks above gaming. It’s sort of helped me with memory although granted that memory is more so game based lol. But I play mostly for stress relief.
