
Redbox was a US company that rented DVD movies, via kiosks placed at common shopping areas. The company went bankrupt, a victim of cheaper and more convenient streaming services. This left 24 thousand Redbox kiosks in place. Some people have bought them and taken them home.
One person did that and found that it was pretty easy to break the encryption on data stored in the machine, which contained sensitive personal information including name and partial credit card numbers.
