What do you think about Sci-fi movies from the 60s and 70s?

Barbarella indeed was eye candy :D
Some other (less well known) SciFi stuff had been "Clockwork Orange", "Starship Orion", "Dark Star", "Silent Running'' and such.
Ever since the 80's I do not know about movies of this genre that even come close to the intellectual spirit of good SciFi. With very few exceptions such as ''Ender's Game'' - but the good SciFi stories were all written before most present people were born. It has -meanwhile- become too commercial and too 'effects-seeking'... a mirror of today's lack of vision and innovative thinking concepts.
In the 60's and 70's SciFi was shining brightly. Meanwhile it's just a faint faint fading glow of what it has been once.
Some were classics like War Of The Worlds and The Day The Earth Stood STill that were both remade recently. There were also many cheesey movies with cheap special effects that are not very noteworthy
I've seen a few, they're not too bad, but most of them really do show their age. Like for example 'Soylent Green', with Charlton Heston. Overpopulation never became the issue it was portrayed in the film as being, with demographic decline being one of our biggest concerns right now. In any case, they're generally a million times better than anything that Hollywood has come out with within the last 20 years, which just seem to consist of remakes, "reimaginings" (i. e. destroying the reputation of the originals and alienating the fans) and stupid superhero films.
The modern ones are better.

They often explore futuristic themes and societal issues with groundbreaking special effects for their time. Some of my favorites include "2001: A Space Odyssey" with its stunning visuals and "Star Wars," which redefined the genre. "Planet of the Apes" with its iconic twist and "A Clockwork Orange" with its dystopian narrative are unforgettable too. These films were innovative pioneers, setting the stage for modern sci-fi. 🚀🌌
