There is so much complexity that these graphs kinda touch upon so, I’m going to summarize best as I can (since it is extremely late)

Generally showcases the decline of Westerns , Musicals , and War.

It shows the rise of thriller, horror , and sci fi also documentary.

I see it as movies are declining in popularity since people will only pay if it is a worth while investment like family fun , could be good with friends , or is a cinematic masterpiece that is worth checking out. The Movies cost an arm and a leg, no one is wasting it on crap that Hollywood shoves down our throats.

Thrillers and Horror are on an upward trend along with sci fi and documentary since they fit specific categories. Thrillers / Horror for friends wanting a movie to watch together as a group activity with snacks , Sci Fi for nerds in their niche / family / friends , and documentary for those that enjoy history or learning new about a topic they never knew about , etc.

Musicals and Romance could be on the decline since the quality is low than what came before, though I couldn’t tell ya also there is a surplus of the entertainment so, why waste money on a new one that doesn’t live up when you could watch a classic in the comfort of your home / rent digital? Exactly. Over saturation played a role in decline overtime

It seems that in over a century, we want to be more entertained with movies that are thrillers, comedies, crime stories, horror, and documentaries, and less likely to watch westerns, war films, romance and musicals. To me, it appears that we like the ones I mentioned best because we want to get away from real life. These thrillers, horror films, crime and so on will take out minds off of the real life problems. I guess looking at documentaries is the way we can see a little of real life situations and people. No one is more interested these days in westerns, musicals or war because perhaps they don't want to be entertained by situations that don't relate to them.

If that was a class, then I'd probably push students to draw conclusions from this, what you are actually doing with this question.
