Should Birmingham Airport be renamed Ozzy Osbourne International?

Nearly 30,000 people have signed a petition to change the name of Birmingham Airport to Ozzy Osbourne International.

What are your thoughts on this? Good idea reflecting what he meant to the people of the city or is naming places after entertainers a silly idea?

I liked Ozzy but no. Perhaps rename the bar. Other than being born there, I am not sure what he did for the community. I don’t think the Beatles did anything for Liverpool or Madonna for Saginaw, Mi. Ozzy’s estate could buy his old house there and give it to the church to house people with troubles such as single moms, recovering addicts etc 6 months to a year in the house to get in their feet again. That would be a good legacy. Perhaps buy the whole block.

Example in the airport name, give it to the EMT that saved 67 lives or something like that, Ozzy was given a lot by society but he did nothing as great as that. They could put his statue out front though, that seems more appropriate.

Sure. Memorialize (sorry 'bout that "zed" there) an incredibly popular performer that showed amazing longevity for a popular musician! Why not hang mobils of bats in the main concourse (poor bat). Other art could surely be done there as well. We have various representations of Stevie Ray Vaughan around here, so why not?

Absolutely... We already have the John Lennon International Airport in Liverpool... So why not recognise everything that Ozzy did and brought into Birmingham, by naming the airport after him.

As for something being named after someone it’s an honor & as for renaming Birmingham Airport to Ozzie Osbourne International or Osbourne International Airport I’m sure if that happened the Osbourne family would be honored as well.

Considering we have airports named after John Lennon, John Wayne, Louis Armstrong and the Peanuts guy, as long as it's not already named after someone else, I don't see why not? It would be a cool way to honor his legacy
