Why did they make Bane so intelligent in Dark Knight Rises when he was dumb as a stump in the animated series and Arkham Asylum?

He’s not. He’s liable to give in to his passions, which Batman uses to his advantage, but he’s still a mercenary, he knows more than just how to fight, he also knows how to track, be stealthy, and he knows to work with people that covert their tracks as someone who wants to get away with doing less than legal things. Nolan definitely built on that for the sake of his story, especially after receiving such massive praise for his take on Joker and Two Face, which are arguably some of the best modern takes on the characters, so he added his spin on Bane. As I recall, Bane was something a lot of people liked in theaters, in my opinion it was better than the kinda racist luchador archetype he had before in some cases, including BTAS, and definitely more marketable.

I don't like Nolan's version, the only good Batman movie he made was the one with Scarecrow.
