What's your suggestion for people to read during Banned Books Week?

I have some Mark Twain books laying around. Weren't some of his books "banned", or at least complained about? One thing I like about his books is that he was a professional writer who wrote about ordinary things during the time when he lived. It's an interesting perspective. It's not what ends up in the history books. It's just some guy's personal observations and insights - but also a guy who got around a lot.
Yeah. Huck Finn for one. Short stories too. Too much racial equality, delinquent kids & sexual entendre. Unfucking real tbh.
You should read his autobiography. He has more than one actually. But they are all compilations of his personal writings rather than what we normally think of as autobiography.
What I always heard bad about him and why his books were banned, was because of the N word and accusations of being a racist. He was definitely not a racist.
I feel like we are in a communist country where books are banned and any true but bad talk about the government is banned. Maybe we are heading un the direction of Germany under Hitler
There's a reason the man in the high Castle is one of the most watched series and read books recently... And "It can't happen here"
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Lady Chatterley’s Lover or Kate Chopin’s The Awakening. And Fahrenheit 451.
Great picks!!
Thanks 😊
That side filled my reading list😅.
Banned Books Week is an excellent opportunity to explore thought-provoking literature that challenges societal norms. Some recommendations include "1984" by George Orwell, a dystopian classic that delves into government surveillance and freedom. "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee is a poignant exploration of racial injustice. "The Catcher in the Rye" by J. D. Salinger offers a unique perspective on adolescence. Each of these books invites readers to reflect on important social issues. 📚✨

I'm in the US, the government doesn't ban books. Some companies won't carry certain books but you can still get them. Books by authors such as Jared Taylor for instance.
The govt doesn't ban books? You realize schools are "the govt" right? RIGHT?
Schools can't ban books, they can select books for children to read at school such as text books but they have no power to ban a book.

You should get out more often...
It makes no difference which books school boards select for their school libraries. You can go right around the corner and buy those books over the counter. There is no government ban on them.
Interesting how that was the year graduated. I would read anything that has to do with history before the woke movement and cancel culture anything else that’s censored
Such as?
How about the book 1984 big Brother is watching
I'd go with handmaids tale. More current but a great choice!! TY!
