I just watched another pro gamer wreck house with Masticore out of his Sideboard due to Living Wish. He won the tournament 4-0 and also embarrassed the Dreadnought player into rage quitting using a mono-green "control" deck. Masticore and Scavenger Folk were the heroes of the day, along with Ravenous Baloth... all cards the Bot and other human commentators thought were too slow. He also had 4 Krosan Tusker in the mainboard for the card draw and land fetch and 4 wall of blossoms.
Masticore is basically an automatic win if you have the mana and extra cards to support it. It's still one of the top 2 or 3 creature cards in the format, along with Morphling and Phyrexian Dreadnought

It wrecks all the opponent's 1 and 2 toughness creatures, is nearly unkillable, and attacks for the win.
Krosan Tusker was GOLDEN in that guy's pro vs pro games. He won the tournament 4-0, and again, he embarrassed the Dreadnought player into rage quitting.

Masticore is underrated because most players and bots think in today’s terms: cheap threats, fast clocks, and efficient answers. In Premodern, though, the card lines up insanely well against fair creature decks and midrange.
The “downside” of discard is actually upside in decks with Tuskers, Baloth, and recursion. With enough mana, it becomes removal, inevitability, and a finisher in one slot. People just forget how warped the battlefield looks once it sticks. 😅
