What is a 60s or 70s rock band that no one ever talks about that was actually really good?

Yes, I have several.
1) Moby Grape -- This band formed in the SF Bay Area in 1966. They were unique in that all the members sang and wrote songs. They were a tiny bit country, mostly rock and did some experimenting with psychedelic sounds. Other good bands from that era and genre include (2) Quicksilver Messenger Service and (3) Spirit.
4) Ian Dury and the Blockheads - You may know one or two of their songs, like "Sex and Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll" or "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick". They were not big in the USA or worldwide, but well known in the UK. Ian contracted polio as a child in 1949, before there was a vaccine for it, and suffered from physical disabilities due to it. He was, however, a brilliant performer and songwriter who composed many tongue-in-cheek, extremely clever rock songs.
5) Terry Reid - Also a Brit, Terry Reid is best known for turning down the lead singer offer from Jimmy Page for Led Zeppelin, while recommending Robert Plant instead. He also turned down an offer from Deep Purple. Both things worked out well for those bands in the late 60's and early 70's.
Terry said he has never regretted that decision because he had different musical visions. That's evidenced in his work, which includes 6 studio albums and 4 live albums. Robert Plant praised him as someone with a powerful voice and tremendous control. Graham Nash said he should have been a mega-star. I love his stuff.
6) Last but not least by any means, a band that did have a few hits you know of, but no ever talks about for being as great as they were: 10cc.
10cc was a power house of talent, in my opinion, who created catchy pop tunes, incredibly layered vocals and wrote really clever, engaging songs. If you've never heard anything besides "I'm Not In Love" and "The Things We Do For Love", check out their LP's "Bloody Tourists" and "Deceptive Bends".
And yes, their band name, 10 CC, is the volume of the average human male ejaculation. LOL Clever little blokes, aren't they?
I'm pretty sure I heard one of them say it was chosen as more than the average...
The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Robin Trower, Peter Frampton, and Three Dog Night come to mind. Wings also, but they had so many hits and were effectively Paul McCartney, it's hard to say no one talks about them any more. But I will include "Uncle Albert" which was just before Wings.

This best of playlist will help. About 1/2 the songs on this album were significant hits.

Dude, every band you mentioned was HUGELY popular! She asked for really good bands no one ever talks about.
@loveslongnails I think "hugely popular" depends on who you are talking to. Those of us who are older will know all these, but many young people would not.
I disagree. Young kids today grew up with parents who listened to all of those popular groups. They were all the radio as well. Did you look at my list? How much about any of those groups or artists did you know about, or have heard?
But the post isn't directed at very young people; it's directed at people your age and asks which 60's/70's bands were really good that no one talks about. That's not McCartney, or Wings, or Sly, or Three Dog Night. They'll get mentioned all day long by anyone your age or my dad's age.
You're still not getting it. Jimi Hendrix is one of the guitarists mentioned in EVERY conversation about the GOAT. Everyone has heard of Hendrix. Everyone knows who Frampton is. Robin Trower is the only one who fits the question, so far. I've seen him twice in my life too!
@loveslongnails I am getting it. These are all people WE know.
Talk to my granddaughter and she'll say "Who?"
Again, this isn't directed at your granddaughter. She doesn't talk about ANY bands from the 60's or 70's. She doesn't know who was popular, or great, or relative unknowns. The question is directed at you, and who YOU think was a great band that NO ONE talks about. So far, you've named one guy.
@loveslongnails Spotify says my 16 year old daughter has the listening habits of a 73 year old so... there are young people that listen to these back catalogues intensively.
@MrChinaski Good for her, but so what in terms of this post?
@loveslongnails Okay then... i hope you enjoy your mood.
@MrChinaski I love my mood, thanks for caring. :)

War - It's a band that people from that era would recognize several of their songs. But if you asked them what songs War did they probably couldn't name any.
Robin Trower - I've always liked him but I hear very little about him.
Richie Havens - Never hear about him any more.
War is one of my most played CDs. It's a double CD and damn good.
I saw Trower in a small venue. I don't think he did any large venues. I heard him on the radio for the first time when you could still call the station and talk to the DJ. I called in and asked who it was - some guy named Robin Trower.. I went out and bought the record. I think he still tours.
I love Richie havens covers. Recently I've really liked his cover of the Pink Floyd song "On the Turning Away"
So you aren't just a metal head?

I love Classic Rock
I still listen sometimes today.
The Allman Brothers seem to only have a narrow following these days.
