Have you ever seen the movie Bedazzled and would you do what Brendan Fraser's character did if the devil were real?

If I could get 7 wishes from the devil they would all be not for myself but for other people considering in the movie every time he made a wish for himself, it went severely wrong.

I would wish for cancer to be gone,

aids to be gone,

homelessness to not be a thing anymore,

my family gets out of debt and can live comfortably,

my friends also get out of debt and can live comfortably,

human trafficking not be a thing anymore,

and no more wars.

Isn’t the entire point of stories like this to be all “be careful what you wish for” because it always backfires? Like, at this point, I wouldn’t make a wish for the sole fact that I don’t think I can wish for anything that wouldn’t backfire.


Like, take your wishes for example. You say you want to get rid of aids, cancer, homelessness and wars. Okay, everything we know about cancer has been deleted and/or burned by christian scientists in a fit of fanaticism, AIDS is cured but replaced by something worse, and in asking to get rid of wars all countries decide to defund their nuclear programs and turn it into energy production but it’s staffed by incompetent and undereducated teams that, unsurprisingly, cause the downfall of humanity by creating multiple nuclear disasters. There’s no cancer, aids, war, or homes because there’s no one left. Simultaneously, the debts of your family and friends no longer exist too. Got what you wanted.

I probably wouldn’t. Despite the temptation to achieve so much without doing any of the work, the realization that the devil was real would inspire me to consider that everything else written in the bible was also real. So any deal with the devil would be in exchange for my soul and an eternity in Hell. There’s just not enough Earthly gratification to justify that. The devil is also described as a deceiver. How could i possibly trust that she would hold up her end of the bargain?
If the premise were the classic genie concept, i might be more tempted. But i would rescind as soon as the first wish went haywire. Genies are often written as tricksters too and i don’t trust easily.

I don't remember much... Other than she's a 10/10... I am pretty sure all is guys went into primitive brain mode watching that film and my 1st wish would be for her not trick my wishes easy, 2nd her to never hurt me unless I want it, 3rd to be in love with me forever, 4th I gain powers like hers (can make my own wishes then) 5th she can't force me to wish anymore for her.

So now I have 2 more wishes that I have no need to use, she never gets my soul and everything is great, with a spare wish and my own powers.

The devil promised Adam & Eve in the garden they would be 'like gods' after eating forbidden fruit and we all know how that turned out. Mankind earned death, was expelled from the garden and cursed.

The devil also made Jesus several promises in the wilderness, but He fell for none of them.

The devil currently has the dominion that mankind used to have over the world. But we will have it again if we trust in Jesus. He did all the things perfectly that the 1st Adam did not and became the curse for us.

The original Bedazzled was in 1967 starring Dudley Moore (from Arthur) and Peter Cook.

In one scene in the new Bedazzled movie, Elizabeth Hurley calls her dogs Dudley and Peter. Dudley Moore and Peter Cook wrote the original Bedazzled, along with Larry Gelbart who also wrote Tootsie and the TV show MASH.

The original movie was directly by Harold Ramis, who directed and also wrote the new version. He is best known as Bill Murray's partner in Ghostbusters (which he also wrote).

Nowadays, actors can barely write their own names.
