What did you think of the One Piece live action adaptation—did you like it?

I'm not an og fan but I really didn't like it. Maybe I'm bias because I spent the whole show thinking what a live action would look like and they did a lot of the stuff I would have tried to avoid.

The show has this bright and hopeful feeling. But the live action version feels so gloomy, dark and kind of unalive. At least to me. Like the going merry is looks like a demonic statue.

I would have gone for something that felt a little more grounded. I think it would have been so much better off if they focused more on adding weight to the aspects of what made the anime so good so that the same story can become palatable to a modern, young adult audience.

It kinda felt like I was watching intentionally slow pacing to hide the fact it's like a video game checklist of whatever moments they decided to cover.

And I would have worked way harder on the costumes too.

Adapting anime to screen is probably the hardest thing to do. Obviously they've done a good job because people love it.

But holy shit do I wish I could take a swing at it one day.

I actually enjoyed the One Piece live action a lot more than I expected 😊
The casting was spot on, especially Luffy, Zoro, and Nami, and the sets and costumes really captured Oda’s world without feeling too cosplay-ish. Some arcs felt rushed and a bit “compressed,” but the heart, humor, and Straw Hat chemistry were there. As adaptations go, it’s one of the better anime-to-live-action attempts so far ⚓️🏴‍☠️
