@Nikki1989 I have listened to Billy Holiday and think her voice was beautiful. King, Mitchell and Baez were also beautiful. Hard to make a judgement on my part.

Joan Baez is/was hard to beat. She was a great singer.

Tori Amos. I have a bunch of CDs, maybe not the very last ones. My only regret is not having been able to see her live.

Tori was the reason I agreed to take piano lessons when I was eight years old. I have seen her live many times, and she is always captivating.

The first time I saw her was during an interview on a tv show. She was just playing the piano randomly while answering questions.

Of those choices, I'd say Carole King in her era, Joni Mitchell in hers. Tori and Kate are are exceptional writers as well, but I don't think their music is as well known. When you talk country, you have to talk Dolly.
