Why are low-budget horror movies so popular in theaters now?

The only time I go to the movies nowadays if it’s a movie that looks really pretty on a big screen. Who are these people paying all this money to go see these low budget horror films in theaters? they they’re making so much money off these cheap movies. I am not a horror fan, but I can enjoy that just as easily at home

I wouldn't know, I generally don't watch horrors - although I have seen a few good ones. I feel like the ones from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s are way scarier than the stuff today, even with their older graphics and costumes. Poltergeist is terrifying, and Ghostbusters II still freaks me the fuck out with that Vigo the Carpathian guy even after all these years.
