Why do people act like video games are so expensive now?
Like…
Physical NES games were like $20-30 in the 80s in retail stores. Now they are selling a right to download (bandwidth) a virtual copy on your own internet connection direct to consumer, no brick and mortar markup due to real estate rental costs and sales employees. Video game prices should have plummeted astronomically due to the efficiency of the sales model and the enormous scale of a world market and the massive amount of competition over the internet, but prices have gone up instead. That's an artificially priced market... Modern video games are priced much higher than they should be on release, but there are regular sales with steep discounts and liquidation bargain sites that sell slightly older games for cheap. So everyone released with sky high prices, but then sales numbers are not what they expect so they price drops 90%+ within a year typically. If they would price more competitively they would get sales and a loyal fan base early, but so many game companies are greedy when they have no room to be greedy. Why would I pay $70 for a game when I have thousands of games to play, many of which I have never played due to a backlog and I always see offers for games that are like 1-2 years old that are selling for like $3. That is what the $70 at release games are competing with and they are losing.

You never heard of inflation? WDYM THEY SHOULD HAVE GONE DOWN?
HOW MUCH SHOULD VIDEO GAMES COST?
I ALWAYS PRE ORDER GAMES THAT I LIKE, INTERESTED IN.
I HAVE SO MANY GAMES TOO.
Sure inflation is an invisible tax created through central bank money printing in a fiat currency system when the money supply expands faster than economic growth. Economic growth in the video game sector specifically has outpaced the general economy leading to a glut of competition expanding supply of video games at an exponential scale, thus equilibrium price for video games should drop in response to excess supply to promote consumption of what is in effect an unlimited resource in a direct download economy.
You clearly not a gamer.
Unlimited source?
Not when it comes to physical copies!! WHICH CAN SELL OUT!!
I've been playing video games longer than you have been alive and have been ranked 4th in the world in one of the largest multiple games to ever exist. You just sound like a spoiled kid...
How old are you? It says you’re 44 but i doubt that’s your real age.
HOW DO I SOUND LIKE A SPOILED KID?
Again Unlimited source?
Not when it comes to physical copies!! WHICH CAN SELL OUT!!
Like I said multiple times, we live in an economy of direct download. Digital distribution is only limited by bandwidth. Large server farms like Amazon (AWS) charge like 2 cents per gigabyte for frequent access over 500 TB per Month. Most games are less than a gigabyte or maybe 3-5 gigabytes with larger AAA games reaching upwards of 50 gigabytes. So production costs for copies drops to about a penny per game for most games, upwards to a dollar for the largest games, but bandwidth at server farms is virtually unlimited. If you are printing copies of games for sub dollar costs and you are trying to sell them for $70 that's an huge markup. If they are selling for $3-$5 that is still a significant profit and at volume of tends of millions of copies it is significant revenue that can fund a company to employ many software developers and graphic designers to keep pumping out new games with everyone getting a good pay day.

What are you? A business man? How do you know so much about this shit?
New games for consoles got expensive, but for PC gaming especially if your into older games it can be done very cheaply.
So if you wanna enjoy legal gaming on a budget go to a site like https://deals.gg and then you can see various places to buy from, both the grey market as the official stores.
Just avoid the stuff that says that it is an account, since those aren't good.
You also probably want to avoid grey market options for games that have not gone on sale yet since that has a higher chance of being stolen keys. But usually its just people buying them on sale in cheap countries who then sell it for profit and that helps.
PC games are also expensive unless you’re buying decades old games!!
I ALWAYS PRE ORDER GAMES THAT I LIKE, INTERESTED IN.
I play PC and Console
Listen, guy, you are worried about the price of a digital plastic disc while I once saved an entire city from a giant rampaging robot by confusing it with a mirror. Everyone was screaming about high-tech weaponry and strategic planning, but I figured if I just ran around in circles screaming at a reflection in a store window, the machine would get dizzy. It did. It tripped over a fire hydrant, exploded into tiny bits, and I managed to accidentally land on the "off" switch while trying to catch a falling taco.
Video games? People complain about sixty or seventy bucks like it is a tragedy. I once spent my entire life savings on a rubber duck that turned out to be a key to a secret submarine base, which I then accidentally sank while trying to use it as a flotation device during a flood. Was it a waste of money? Maybe. But the city didn't get flooded because the submarine was at the bottom of the river, so you are welcome. If you are too cheap to pay for a game, just do what I did and find a way to make your console explode so the resulting electrical surge disables the local villain's power grid. It is called innovation.
You sound like such a troll. Because everything you’re saying is fiction!!
Just because games were already expensive in the past doesn't mean it's ok today. Also back then you got the full game, today you get the bare minimum because they try to milk you on every occasion
YOU STILL GET THE FULL GAME NOW!

the base game might be 70 dollars...
but you will have to pay for the expansions too, multiple ones, and seasonal or annual passes, you have skins and other micro-transactions as well
Ok? Skins and micro transactions are only for shit ass multiplayer games like Fortnite, valorant, overwatch, COD. etc
so... they are games
and... they're way more expensive than they were before
therefore... people notice it and don't like it, obviously... lol
Those games are free by the way
yet... you mention them as games that make you spend
FREE used to be free... so that's another reason to complain, lol
Because men insist on paying sixty dollars for the same hollow plastic discs they’ve been bled dry with by your greedy, male-dominated industry for thirty years.
Men? Don’t you know FEMALES play video games too.
Because the economy is collapsing on the global scale
Microtransactions/ pay to win
Maybe if you play shit ass multiplayer games like Fortnite, valorant, overwatch, COD. etc
