The Eurovision song contest is held every year and many countries compete. It originally included only countries in Europe but over the years other countries have participated: Australia and Israel, for example.

Now Canada has announced that it will participate in the contest in Vienna in 2027., making it 4 continents (3 outside Europe) that participate.

Is it time the name was changed from Eurovision to Worldvision?

Oops, my mistake. Vienna hosts the 2026 competition. The 2027 competition will be in Bulgaria, most likely Sofia, the capital city.

The name is more about the brand and the contest’s origin than strict geography. Like “Miss Universe” not literally meaning the whole universe, Eurovision has decades of history, nostalgia, and recognition.

Canada is ok because they're kinda European and Canada sort of belongs to the UK.

Israel got kicked out of Asia by the Muslim countries. Turkey, Cyprus and Caucasus are at a crossroads so I'll let it slide, but yeah, I don't know how Australia and Canada got in there.
