What animal would be a bad idea for a petting zoo?

I’d choose a porcupine it be a bad idea.

Porcupines are actually quite social and pettable. If a child is teachable, they can be taught how to safely pet a porcupine. Especially the babies whose hair isn’t as spiny as the adults. They get pricklier with age.
My answer would have to be poison dart frogs. Their bright colors would make them irresistible to children, but the poison that their skin secretes is one of the most toxic in the natural world. That would be a bad combination for a petting zoo.
There’s also a sea sponge that secretes a thick, sticky goop as a defense mechanism. While i’m sure kids would love playing with it, parents would hate having to clean them up after. So those are probably out.

There’s a butterfly exhibit in Michigan. Lots of people go through and get to interact with butterflies and moths without incident. They attract thousands of people every year.

Porcupine is such a solid choice 😂 Those quills are like nature’s “do not touch” sign.
I’d add: wolverines or honey badgers, because they’re tiny chaos machines, and hippos, since they’re insanely aggressive despite looking cute.
Venomous snakes are another terrible petting zoo idea.
Basically, anything spiky, venomous, or deceptively cute should stay out 🦔🐍💀

Skunks are actually pretty chill. If a child can be taught, they can be taught to pet a skunk without incident. They do a funny little dance to scare you off long before they spray. If you give them the space they want, you can even get away with stressing them out occasionally without getting the juice.
