Only reason I would give my cat away from me is if she was sick and since they would not accept sick animals that would be a no.
It's something they've done for a long time, the animals they get donated would be put down anyways in most cases and at Aalborg zoo it is done by professionals and with humanity. Animals eating animals is natural. Heck I eat animals, this includes rabbits and horses. Feeding the animals in the zoo, with something close to their natural food source is beneficial to them - from the calcium in the bones to the fur.
@Iron_Man
I'm sorry to hear that. Not everyone wants to rot in the earth forcing my loved ones to take on a lifelong responsibility of taking care of a grave. 🤷♀️ I'll be a part of earth one way or another, I've had an impact on people so I've people who'll have the memory of me after my passing - that is all that matters to me, not how I'll get there.
@Iron_Man
And how does your body being gently put down in a hole to rot show more honor or respect - then being burned, or whatever else? You really think your way is the only respectable and honourable way?
I definetly will be burned - fuck yes, the $$ I'll save, will go to family + donations.
If you are the proud pet owner of something like a snake or a frog, you routinely feed them live or frozen prey. Do people cry about that? Animals are euthanized ALL THE TIME. There are an abundance of kill shelters that kill potential pets because they simply don't have the room. Those animals are sent to the landfill or cremated. Are people outraged enough to do more about it? When parks are overrun by certain species that multiply quickly, they allow hunters to go in and kill them off to reduce the population...again, when is the last time someone protested that? If an animal is going to die, and no one is intending to stop it, then at the very least, let it's body not go to waste by feeding it to another animal.
It's like the vegan who complains about people eating meat, but sits on a leather couch at home, is wearing a leather belt, and has on leather shoes....
This is a question that may rise some polemics, because of the plain natural truth about predators in the wild only killing to eat, and what happened during the Second World War in camps.
In the frame of cold logic, one could indeed feed unwanted pets to the zoo's predators, but people giving their pet to that purpose must really hate their pet or miss some screw in their head. Think of what Saint-Exupéry says in "Le Petit Prince" (The Little Prince): "you become for ever responsible for what you have tamed".
On the ethical side, I cannot imagine how to tell kids their dog, cat or rabbit is going to be the zoo's lion next meal, just because their parents are tired of the involved pet...
it is nevertheless also true that shelters being overpopulated, many abandoned animals will be euthanized.
My dog last year died of cancer. They probably don’t want diseased animals which many pets would be at death along with the drugs in them.
They could harvest from the “kill shelters” as they are called here. If strays aren’t adopted in say 3 days, they are killed. If they are euthanized in a manner that doesn’t contaminate them then they could be fed to the lions etc. The circle of life.
I’m okay with it if it is strays or people voluntarily giving up their pets that are at end of life or even road kill such as deer, raccoons or possums. My dog though was cremated and his ashes spread on a barrier reef in the ocean. Great dog. I wouldn’t have donated him to the lions though.
Such a practice raises important ethical questions. I believe that pets form a part of our family, and the bond we share with them is invaluable. It's essential to consider humane and reasonable alternatives if someone can no longer care for their pet, such as rehoming or surrendering them to a shelter, rather than viewing them as simply food for predators. Compassion and respect for animals should guide our decisions. 🐾
Couldn't have said it better

Definetely not! The law of nature dictates the food chain anyway, but we shouldn't interfere with it. They should continue feeding them just like before
I also completely disagree with euthanizing animals, regardless of the reasons. I don't believe we have the right to take lives, whether human or animal."
Uh, no, hell no.
Maybe the zookeepers should randomly cut off their own body parts and feed that to the animals. 🙄
What?

NEVER!!

A German zoo just euthanized a dozen baboons because of overpopulation and fed them to the big cats. Of course a few militant animal-rights activists are now throwing a fit.
Ewww how awful
I mean I get the whole circle of life thing, and I respect if animals kill in the wild. They have to eat to live. But if I had a pet, it means I developed a bond with them. I wouldn't do anything to them that I wouldn't do to my loved ones.
Damn. That sounds kind of fucked up.
Though anything animal cruelty related doesn't surprise me anymore in the slightest, honestly.
The vast majority of people don't even respect OTHER people, why would they respect animals?
I like cats and dogs so I am appalled.
Why can't the zoo just breed rabbits for alive feeding? I hate rabbits, as most Australians do, so it would be good to see them serving a useful purpose.
How would they feel if people strongly suggested that the staff of that zoo be fed to the zoo animals?
And feed the most unwanted staff members to the animals. :D
@Iron_Man
She got the amusement she expected out of it, didn't you @purplepoppy dear? :)
Simply asking a question about a real news story I knew would divide opinions.
No, but my backyard has been overrun with chipmunks. I might give a few of them to the zoo.
"Not a chance — my pets are family, not lunch."
Nope. I'm not even a pet owner. That's some psychopathic BS. Tf is wrong with people these days 😭
Everyone, including animals, have the right to live
Don't have a problem with it..
But live delivery would be best. No difference than human organ donation.
Yes , organ donor.
How can they suggest that of someone's pet!
But the Romans fed the Christians to the hungry lions, so it's not something new.
... Well, now I have ANOTHER reason to hate Denmark, besides all the times they invaded us and stole our island. They should feed themselves to the animals.
I’m not sure the report is from a verifiable source
Thats evil and no one would take their pets to be murdered to be fed for food. Anybody that does that should be put in jail and lose their license I can understand rats but not dogs or cats or rabbits or anything else
I doubt this is a true story
It's on the BBC news website
Shame on that zoo they can file a law suit some Attorney
How would they like it if my friend Bigfoot that I met in the woods came to that zoo and took care of business 👀
@Ironco what do you mean?
@Ironco Oh ok 👍🏻
That sounds kind of cruel.
I'd rather promote to donate certain family members or neighbours to support our local zoo.
No but I know a few humans I would gladly donate.
We should have Americans and Israelis being allowed to be fed to the predators alive, too.
Sure! It's just a snack and the pet would be euthanized beforehand. Hakuna matata
It makes sense. I'd not do it my self, but I'm not against it.
No, but makes sense. I’m always shocked by the number of unwanted pets. I expect the same people would return the kids if they could
Sure why not fuck it all that dam dog does is dig holes.
I’m just fucking with everybody I wouldn’t do that as a matter of fact I don’t even own a dog. I have a cool cat named Sebastian, but he’s deaf I don’t know why we gave him a name. He can’t hear it..🤣🤣
Nope but I'd donate neighbours annoying dogs giviven the chance
I’m not a sociopath, so no.
What the actual fuck guys?
It's just macabre.
Not so much as a chance of that!
Aww of coarse not 🥺
NO, I'd hand over some people though.
This is absolutely disgusting.
Not in a million years
That sounds like animal cruelty to me.
How about neighbors kids
Fuck no
Alive I assume?
No way.
I doubt its real!
What? no
oh hell no
