Would you ever spend $1,000 on concert tickets, even for your favorite band?

My favorite band of all time is coming in concert and I saw them numerous times already, but now they are coming again and the ticket prices are absolutely insane , to the point if I was going to pay that much money for them , they better be playing in my backyard. Would you pay that much money for a concert ticket? Even if i was rich, I wouldn’t pay that much to see them , it’s crazy that tickets are this expensive. I will just watch it on YouTube for free 😂

I don’t think I’ve done north of $1,000. I came close, for Blink-182 of all bands, lmao; but whatever, I love Blink, and I’m not gonna apologize😂 I think after all the fees it was a little over $900.

My thing is this: if I go to a show, I want to be right up front. I want to see the whites of the performers’ eyes; really BE THERE. Plus I’m a huge mosh pit guys, lmao, so I gotta be down “in the shit.” Obviously that comes at a premium, but that still usually under $500, and likely under $300. Depending who it is, I might only be paying like $40.

So $900 is a reach for me. But the reasoning was that I never saw these guys back in our heyday; I had seen them once with 2/3 members of the band. But one them had survived a plane crash, other survived Lymphoma, and the guy missing through all of that was Tom DeLonge, off chasing aliens and conspiracy cover-ups, lmfao. So when they reunited, I was just “who knows how long this will last for. Just pull the trigger and scratch it off the list.”

Conversely, Pearl Jam came to Fenway Park a couple years ago, and it was like $2K to be in the pit. I like Pearl Jam, I don’t love them; so that’s a little rich for my blood.

I’ve probably spent $1,000 “all told” before, though, just because I traveled to Austin, TX to see Guns N Roses, and probably got fairly close chasing Rage Against The Machine to NYC. I just drove halfway and took a train the rest of the way so I wouldn’t have to deal with city driving/parking, so that kept the costs down, and ticket wasn’t too crazy.

I think I saw in another comment that Rush is the band in question. For me, I might pay, because I’ve never seen them live. Obviously Neil is gone now, it won’t be peak Rush, but they’d be worth checking out, to me. If you’ve seen them a bunch of times before, and at full force, I definitely get the hesitation. But I guess the flip side is that they’re getting old, so catch them while you can.

No. I won't pay more than $100, and nearly all of the 370+ concerts I've been to I paid considerably less.

Fortunately, I got to see nearly every band/act I liked while they were still together and touring, and I did that by seeing those bands at smaller venues or less "headline" shows. Now, a lot of them have either retired from touring or have died.

Journey is playing one of their final shows near me, and I'm not going to go, even though I literally grew up going to (and working at) Journey shows. I did see them three years ago, and they were great, but I'm not paying crazy ticket prices for a band I've seen 15+ times already.

I went to several ZZ Top shows in the late 2010s, knowing they wouldn't keep touring forever, and then Dusty and just recently Frank have passed away, so we've got just a single original member, and they could quit touring at any time. I got to see several shows with the original lineup because I knew I should go while I had the chance, and because ticket prices weren't crazy then.

I could tell similar stories about 50 other bands. There are many legacy bands that tour and you can catch shows at reasonable prices. Many don't have all of the original members, but if it's a 70s or 80s band, you can't expect them to, but many of the "replacement" members have been in the band far longer than the founding members they replaced, and the shows are almost always great.

The most I ever paid for a concert ticket was U2, and it was $90 a ticket back in the 90s, and honestly, the shows were too big and the experience wasn't great. Smaller shows are usually better than huge ones, and they're usually priced better.

My very very favourite artist of back when I was a young teen held a concert in my city. My city is like not even the citiest city of India and no, NOT EVEN POPULAR INDIAN ARTISTS DO CONCERT HERE. So I was under pure bliss to know that I could be in his proximity, but concert prices were not so cute so I ended up not going.

I did once. I bought tickets to see one of the few bands my husband really enjoys as a birthday gift. I think they were $1200 each? The seats were amazing! The concert was amazing! I wouldn’t pay that again though. I was much younger and money was easier to come by.

I totally get you 😂 For me, $1,000 is only worth it if it’s some once-in-a-lifetime thing, like a tiny venue, meet & greet, or final tour ever. Otherwise it feels insane, especially when you’ve seen them before. I’d rather spend that on travel to a music festival or theater weekend. YouTube and livestreams can be surprisingly satisfying 🎧✨

At my age if it was legit with original members yes I would. That list of who I’d see is getting shorter each year because of deaths. The last two I’d pay that much see would be Rush and Heart. Genesis lost Phil so they’re history unless they could get Peter to come back. Pink Floyd is officially over but you never know what the future holds. Yes is over after the death of Chris. The Who did tour but as much as I love them they’re too old and nowhere near what they used to be. It goes on and on. Classic rock is dying and being replaced by a new era. I tend to like smaller bands where I may even chat to them after the show. I can be 2 metres away from them in the audience.

It can be less than £40 for classical tickets.

I guess I would go up to £100 but I generally wouldn't. I guess that's become the norm with inflation and that. I don't think bands should overcharge and should be very conscious of the pricing.

But yeah, I don't like really big venues. I prefer the intimate experience.

They don't need my money that badly, anymore and if they can't do what they do for $20 or $30 a ticket, there's something REALLY WRONG here!!! Can you say, greed? Sure, I knew you could!
I was tempted to go see Paul McCartney about 20 years ago but, the tickets were about $1000 way the fuck up in peanut heaven!!! FUCK THAT!!! I'd have a better view on YT or someone's cell phone!!! My wife and I we went to see our favorite comedian and we for 2 tickets for $300 and we thought thst was a bit high there
At $1000 I would say nooo it would either that much to watch a show for just a few hours or a roof over our heads for a month

It's a long time since I went to a concert but back in the day you never had a problem getting tickets and you didn't have to take out a second mortgage to buy them. The whole world's gone mad if you ask me. Why would you pay an arm and a leg to see a band with hardly any original members?

No way. I saw the best bands in history throughout the entire decade of the '70s. And tickets were like $6 - $10, usually for concerts with one or two great opening bands.
There is no band I would be willing to pay $1000 to see.
