Being told this was a phase. My sister told me this today, I tried nodding and smiling to make her think I understood.

If you are under 18, you have probably heard its a good thing you can't vote.

You probably received sarcastic questions about who you were voting for.

Hearing your parents being asked how they feel knowing they raised a (insert your political party) My brother in law asked my dad that and my dad simply said, "she is her own person." Thanks dad.

You probably find yourself drink way more booze when politics is brought up at the dinner table during Thanksgiving.

There is a chance you have been mocked for your beliefs or received political gag gifts.

You have probably brought up the news or politics for a conversation starter and wish you hadn't.

And when you do discuss politics, you find yourself isolated in your opinion.

And at times they bring it up, and you desperately try to avoid a heated debate.

But it has made you more tolerant towards others beliefs. So go you!

My parents are quite apolitical. They have neither a preference for the Democratic nor the Republican party. However, we have all voted for Barack Obama in the 2008 and 2012 elections, because we just don't see how the Republican party can benefit us. First of all, we are not business owners; second of all, we are naturalized citizens and not so established or well-connected among the community. Many native-born American families have close connections with people who work in so-and-so industry, which may enable them to find jobs and get promoted. Outside of the two presidential elections, my family and I really have not voted for anyone or done much social service, other than the jury duty I went to when I graduated from college.

Well I'm not really isolated because I don't subscribe to any political dogma. One of my brothers is more or less like me, his unthinking reactions are a bit more conventionally liberal but he is capable of seeing other points of view. The rest of my family are knee jerk liberals (except one brother in law who is a rush Limbaugh unthinking conservative). It doesn't bother me, I just sit quietly when politics are discussed (or rather invoked since they don't so much discuss as all sing the same homily) and wait to throw in a logic bomb at the right moment and enjoy the resulting intellectual mayhem.

If you willfully believe, promote, Or even quietly support extreme asinine viewpoints and silly agendas than you have nobody to blame but yourself in the end.
And contrary to how they see themselves with all their delusional and self-serving aggrandizing, The extreme left is nuttier than squirrel shit.

My parents love Islam so much and they follow every role they hear about that sometimes I feel like they are crazy or something. When I mention that I am sad or anything, they would say pray to god, but then I would get angry at them. They don't even allow me to talk to guys saying "Whenever there is a guy and a girl alone, there is a devil between them." Like hell I care. I feel lonely at home and I try to stay away from them as much as possible, so ya. I think I know your feelings there.

Long ago, I dated a girl like yourself. Her parents were hardcore Buddhists, and thought their daughter dating before marriage was outlandish (They wanted to set her up with an arranged marriage). She ended up rebelling even more so, and distanced herself from them as much as possible. When she finally made the decision to move away during her sophomore year of college. She made sure she didn't have to rely on her parents for stability anymore, and once they realized the same thing. They became much more accepting. My advise is the same, stick with it for now, but try to get out into the real world, earn your own point of view, and then distance yourself from needing anything towards your parents support. Be your own self, and support yourself as well. Those two things can definitely change a parents mind quickly.

I probably had it he worst. Me and my brothers are pretty liberal and my Dad is a hardcore conservative and we avoided politics when we could with our Dad because my Dad would rant and if something happened that he didn't like, he'd boast about how he's right and were wrong.

This is why I dodge politics talk with people altogether unless I know the person because a difference in opinion can get very heated. Same with religious discussion.

Sounds like hthey areteasing you. I often wind my brother up as he's super liberal by defending Trump and saying how great he is, I used to do the same with Bush. The more sense he tries to talk the more illogical I become. Maybe your family is doing the same.

Yeah, my parents are Republicans, my sisters are Democrats, my brother is becoming somewhat Libertarian, and I am thoroughly disgusted with all politicians. I am still registered as a Democrat but am getting tired of their BS with excusing illegal immigration and trying to sneak through gun control.

So at family gathering we usually avoid much discussion of politics, limiting it to snarky remarks when my parents inevitably put on Fox News.

That's really good. My parents felt the same way and let me make my own judgments. My brother in law however, is an ass about it and brings up politics whenever he can just so he can argue with me. He supports trump, I support sanders. He even unfriended me on Facebook over it. But he doesn't know that I know that. He made so mad I was so close to impulsively saying that I knew and I am not an idiot. Which is what led him to ask my dad how he felt raising a liberal who loves guns.

in Belgium it is not legal to ask people who they are voting for. there are strong privacy laws here and nobody will ask you who you vote for, unless you have known them for years.
