1. He is a science-and-math guy
He is a man of reason. He explains things scientifically and naturalistically. When I was in grade school, he gave me math lessons, so that I could excel in my math classes. My father is not a native English speaker, so he couldn't help me on my other classes. He could just help me in mathematics, because mathematics is a universal language.
2. He is a teacher
He works in academia. Although his work is primarily in research, he may have students coming to his laboratory to work in exchange for a reference or recommendation letter. His patience, calmness, and creative ways to explain things clearly make him an effective teacher.
3. He looks after his family
When I was younger, he would send letters to his mother (my grandmother), which included money. He also took care of me ever since I was a baby. When he came home from work, my mother would order him to clean my dirty diapers, and he would clean them, holding his breath presumably.
4. He does not have the deadly vices that many men have
Most importantly, he does not have the vices that so many men have and should be ashamed of. He seldom drink alcohol. The only times when he'd drink alcohol are when he's at a holiday party, and that only comes once or twice a year in the form of a multi-family social gathering. He never smokes. He is never sexually promiscuous. My mother is his only woman he has ever slept with, and he is her only man she has ever slept with. Before they got married, they lived with their own parents and siblings while holding full-time permanent jobs.
Transportation was usually by bicycle. Simply put, they lived in a developing country, where modern luxuries just didn't exist, and they coped by avoiding pre-marital sexual contact. Another thing about my father is that he is not entertained by sexually deviant behaviors, or any sexual behavior outside of a heterosexual marriage or without consideration of marriage. He also does not gamble or incurs debts.
A man like my father may be hard to find. Too many men have bad behaviors and addictions. Not only do they indulge in such behaviors, but they glorify them as if they are respectable lifestyle choices. Some men are selfish. Some men lack pedagogical skills. And some men aren't passionate or knowledgeable about science and mathematics. Therefore, I believe that my father is better than most guys my age.
