Reasons why people text others after midnight?

What are some reasons why someone would send a text or respond to a text after 2am? I have a friend who likes responding to texts after midnight even when he saw my texts way earlier. I don't mind delayed responses as long as its nothing important but I don't understand why he responds at midnight. If he was busy, why not just wait till the next day or something. It wakes people up and its kind of rude. Once I replied and told him to go to sleep but he still does it. Why do people think that's okay?

I personally do not respond to texts after midnight. If I know the person goes to bed early I often won't respond after 11. However, there are some situations where I will respond these are... If I have been having a continuous text conversation that started earlier in the night and it is still going and it is after midnight and someone texts me ill often reply. In these situations I feel it is OK but I will not start a conversation that late or reply to a text that late if the person has not send me any texts that late. I will wait to the morning to start a conversation or reply to a text that was sent to me say 4 hours ago. You are right it does wake people up but can't you also turn your phone off? or set it to silent? I am not saying your in the wrong but just trying to offer a solution.

I do text a lot after midnight but it's almost a default of my nature. I become a little more socially active and don't mind being bothered after like 11pm lol. Sometimes I decide to get insomnia and my brain wants to be up all night doing stuff and that's when I took the liberty of texting people on the other side of the world, so I'm texting my night time while it's their daytime. I even have a couple friends that work graveyard shift jobs so while they aren't doing anything we'll text each other. As for people that I consider strangers they usually think my legs might be open and at 8am I rip them a new one.

I do it all the time.
I do it because that's when I have time to reply and remember.
If they don't like it, then they don't have to text me.

Free after 00:00 hours until 06:00 for some people. I get free texts anyway.
