Friend's mom passed away...what to say?

my friends mom passed away..and I am exactly not sure what to say? please tell me!

Tell them you're there if they ever want to talk or just need someone to be around, but then take their cue from there. If they talk about it, listen, if they don't wanna talk about it then don't bring it up. Everyone's different, some people want to talk about it, some people want to be alone, others don't want to think about it, etc.

Everyone's different but personally, when a family member of mine died I felt odd when people said they were sorry (it's odd to respond to, you don't wanna say "its okay" cause it's not). I find it best when people said "how are you? If you ever need someone to talk to I'm always here"

Tell them that you don't know what to say but that you are there for them whenever they need to talk to you and that you'll listen. When people suffer a loss they don't usually want sympathy but they do need a good supporting friend who listens. Don't pressure your friend to talk about their mom though, wait till they're ready to speak about it.

Just give your condolences and leave the rest up to your friend. I have many friends whose parents have passed away. It's better to leave the talking up to them.

There's nothing you can say that will magically fix things. Just be supportive, listen and tell them you will be there for them anytime they need anything.
