+1 yI disagree strongly. A birth certificate is what is known as a "vital record," and it has potential utility for a number of things. It's important for legal and other reasons to have a document that shows the biological father. (There are exceptions, such as when the baby is conceived by means of a sperm donor. But even in that case, there are records that can be accessed on a need-to-know basis for genetic and medical history that has a bearing on the child.)

As fathers have as much right to their children as mothers, especially if they invest equal care, to deny the father rights for her convenience is essentially fraud, Further there is studies that suggest having a father in a child's life gives that child advantages, to systematically deny that child those opportunities is a dis=service to the child.

+1 yhi, its a tricky one because a baby has to be registered so a person has to go and do that... if a woman does it alone a father if forced to would have to go through a dna test for proof, on the other side id never thought of when a man goes with a woman to register he may not be the father but his presence is proof enough at the time, how would you think this could be different?

+1 yWhatever name the family wishes them to have. If they want the kid to have the paternal family name, let the kid have its dad's name. If they want the kid to have the maternal family name, let the kid have its mom's name. If they can't decide, give the kid a hyphenated name or just two last names. Not hard.

Absolutely disagree. If the father's out of the picture entirely, he may need to be found again at some point for medical purposes. Whose idea is it to just erase one side of the parentage from the birth certificate? That's stupid. All to make the mother feel superior?

It's his child as much as her's. Both parents' names should be on the birth certificate in my opinion.

+1 yNo. No matter what the name of biological father should be recorded. In the birth certificate father's name can be optional in certain cases but otherwise the biological father's name should be somewhere.

@Wass_PL no, I mean that the name of biological father should be recorded even if it is not in the actual birth certificate and he is not willing to give child support then he shouldn't.
+1 yIt hurts to say this... but, most of todays socially distracted young moms don't know who the baby father is. Too much of a good time living life like there is no tomorrow i guess. Therefore i believe they might as well just get the certificate of birth without the wrong baby daddy name on it.

It makes it easier for deadbeats to abandon their children since there is no legal responsibility.
Also it will also make people more promiscuous.
The single motherhood ratio is already very high, we dont need that to increase.10 ReplyDisagree. That baby didn't materialize out of thin air. Be accountable for where you put your penis. 😒

+1 yObviously I disagree with this. If you agree, you really need to look at this from a less biased perspective. Not having the father's name is simply going to make life tougher for the child.

+1 yI disagree. It is an important legal document that documents one's heritage, which is important for legal matters such as inheritance or the matter of who is allowed / responsible to care for one.

+1 yIt depends on the situation but most times the fathers name should be put on also
36 Reply- +1 y
In which situations should it stay off?
- +1 y
like if the mom doesn't know who the father is.
- +1 y
How could she not know? It is her husband or partner, quite obviously, at least the one from nine months ago (assuming a breakup occurred in the meantime).
- +1 y
@ZanyInternetName Well some women don't keep loyal I don't think my mom even truly knows...
- +1 y
That thought has not actually occured to me.
So if a woman cheated on her husband she should not let his name be on the birth certificate since there is a chance that that information is false? Wouldn't it be better than no name at all? - +1 y
@ZanyInternetName I don't really know...
+1 yI disagree. The child should know who's the biological father

+1 yDisagree, unless the father is not known. It takes two to tango, and it needs two (sometimes 3, but that's a different issue) to make a baby.

+1 yIn some jurisdictions, I'm sad to say, the absence of a father's name can result in the denial of certain benefits for your child. I can't think of any occasion when it's helpful.
10 ReplyThat would certainly make custody proceedings difficult. Rather seems counterproductive, no?

Yes it is. Why are you insulting me? I don't wish harm towards you nor argue.
You talk to me how you want because you know you have the advantage. You know I'm not a wuss who blocks people but you very much could do so if you felt the need. You don't even worry.0005% about potential backfires of doing so, like if a person you blocked may seek revenge and block you. Just do it at will and expect it to be 100% okay and that the person should accept it as if you would if they did likewise.
I make people unintentionally mad because I don't agree with secularist ways. - +1 y
@Wass_PL
a) talking about nothing and completely unrelated things to obfuscate the point
(b) threatening to hack me for blocking you - which you have done before on other accounts
c) self-righteousness of your random cracked out version of Christianity, practiced by a grand total of 35 people but is somehow the only real religion
d) pretending not to understand plain English - +1 y
Everybody is self righteous. All people trusts their own righteousness. If a person believed it was okay to rape, you'd think they are wrong. All people feels their morals are always right. If people didn't live up to your morals, you'd see them as wrong, whether you told them so or not.

+1 yNot at all. Unless its a relut of rape, he should have every right to know. It takes two to make a baby.
10 ReplyNo. The child belongs to both parents, not just the person who birthed the child.
30 ReplyAgree. A man should not ever be held accountable for something he has no legal say in.

Your logic and reasoning is all emotion and regurgitated man-hate bullshit.
Again:
Its completely irrelevant what "I" want for "my" unborn child. Your body/your choice/your baby should never be arbitrary. But you think it should by your logic.
I can fuck her, yes. But i can never force her to abort/or birth a child. So then why should it be ok to make a man accountable, even in the best case/happy couple scenarios? - +1 y
@Psydchick I have a theoretical question that I ask to put this into perspective. I asked it here Father's and another look at abortions? ↗ I would be interested in your thoughts.
+1 yDisagree.
Unless she doesn't want child support in the future.13 Reply- +1 y
Technically there is no father
How about if you want the father's name ( in case of child support or custody) require a DNA test.
10 ReplyDisagree, holds deadbeat dads more accountable.
