What does it mean if he keeps saying I'm his best friend?

OK so one of my guy friends/crush keeps saying that I'm his best friend when I think that that is obviously not really true. so to recap a little, my friend flirts with me a LOT, like he'd say what he wants to do to me, he'd come like EXTREMELY close to my face so that our noses are pretty much touching (while sometimes pinning me to the wall), he'd put his arm around my waist, play with my hair, touch me just to say the smallest things, a TON of sex jokes about us together, just randomly walk over and start plucking me, hit my butt, tease me, etc. (well you get the picture). so anyway, we don't talk as much as he does with his other female and guy friends, yet when one of our friends asked why he kept messing with me one day he said "cause she's like my best friend" and then wen we were in the hallway alone during classes (coincidentally, because we were in different classes at the time) one day he started hugging me from behind really playfully but then another one of our friends saw us and she told him that he's got to stop hugging so many girls (which he does but trust me not like he was in the hallway) and then he said "but she's like my best friend" while still hugging me by the way. and so today wen we were about to leave school, he KEPT ON TOUCHING ME! and I mean A LOT! so he started pulling me in from behind by my waist and holding me so close that, of course, we were touching, so while he was holding me from behind another friend asked if I was his girlfriend and he shook his head and said "she's my best friend". and that boy would not let go of me! I mean I was about to miss my bus because he was like completely on top of me from behind while holding both of my wrists/hands and just like swinging them back and forth; so anyway, going back to my question, why is that he always immediately says that I'm his best friend wen it's pretty clear that I'm not (I would probably be considered just a regular friend). by the way he's not THAT physical with his other friends, and I only told you guys the clean stuff (I mean he'd hug them but he doesn't air hump them, yea you read it right, as you can see he's not the shy type at all).

Why do not you ask him? Maybe he is not sure of his love or he is afraid to face you so that he might lose you forever (as he thinks). You got to force him to give you the true answer. And watch his language with you. Some words could mean other words. Just whenever you are in a really good mood or something bring it up "do you love me?", of course you are my friend and such stuff but you have to persist to know why does he treat you in such way or that special way. You can tell him that he would never lose you if he said the truth whatever it is. That is a good way to bring his courage up. Still be careful it maybe only a friendship so you got to expect it might happen.

well I know he loves me because he tells me like evry other day, as he does with a lot of his friends, but I know what you mean though

I mean romantic love, not normal friends love, so that's what you should get out of him if he does or not, and things will be cool. At least when you know the truth you will be enlightened with clarity :)

he keeps toching you because he's acting out on a HUGE crush he has on you. he tells people your his best friend for two resons. 1)he doesn't want 2 strait up say he likes you and risk you freaking out and him being rejected 2) he WANTS you two to be best friends.

but it would still be a good idea to just ask him. tomorrow test the waters a litle bit. when he takes you in his arms and tells people your his best friend, look him in the eyes hold his hand and say, something like "you touch me and tell other people I'm your best friend but why can't you just tell ME you like me?"
