He says I'm his "best friend" but he won't tell me what's going on in his life? Why is that?

So this guy friend I have, has been distant. He helped me out has told me many times how much he loves me, and that I'm his best friend etc. He even joked about marrying me, got noticeably jealous about other guys. One time he said to a guy I was "his girl" when we never dated or anything! Well I noticed he has been distant, and it was ever since I said I had a date on Valentine's day, and before that I said I was dating someone to my friend, bit my friend is a big mouth.

Anyways, I figured I would text him since he's so distant. My friends keep telling me all the bad things that are happening in his life, but he won't tell me! like I texted him and he replied quickly like seconds afterward but it was short, and he seem disinterested.

So I said "How are you? Haven't talk to you!" He said "Good. Just trying to keep busy and get caught up" he's not doing good, but he's not telling me! My friends are giving me some info, but if I am his best friend, that he loves so much then why not tell me? He talked about his issues before with me. I don't know if it's because he thinks I have a boyfriend? He didn't ask how I was or anything, so what does this sound like to you? Jealousy? I just don't get it cause all he does is praises me, but yet he's holding back and not really telling what's going on in his life to me.

Well, he's engaging and talking to people more on Facebook and Instagram than he is to me. Like I said through texting he was really vague and short. Where as on FB he's actually having convos with people, and even my own mother! But not with me.

Also he added some of my friends, whom he doesn't even know. I am pretty sure if I texted him he would respond, but it would be short, and disinterested, where as with other people he seems to be more talkative, and more jokey. I feel hurt :(

Yeah, it could be that. What happened was my friend Jake is always setting me up with guys, and it's annoying, and at that point V-day was coming up, and I knew Jake was going to set me up with a guy, so I said to my friend "I am kinda dating someone right now" Just so he wouldn't set me up with someone on V-day. However Jake is best friends with my guy friend, and Jake is a big gossip, big mouth, so I don't know if he told him or not, but I am pretty sure. After that my guy friend became

My friends were telling me how he is going through a lot and how he's in a bad place, so I figured as a friend I would check in and see how he is, but he just seems distant and disinterested. lol! I know nobody could know what's going on with him, on here, but I am just confused as to why he would be so distant with me, when I am supposedly his "best friend" and he just replies to me. That might be it, that's interesting! Cause he is the extroverted type, but he does act a little shy around me. He doesn't seem comfortable with his emotions, but he would call me up all the time and tell his issues and what's going on in his life, so it's unusual that he's just ignoring me, and being very vague. We would have long text convos all the time too! But he was the one that always kept it going. It just hurts cause I think he doesn't want to be my friend anymore. Thank you!

Perhaps he's trying to branch out to other people because he thinks you will be or are already unavailable due to your datin situation. Of course he's jealous, he sees you as his own. For whatever reasons: shyness, difficulty to committ, or whatever, he didn't actually make you his. So it sounds like he's in protective mode and is trying not to get himself hurt as he probably thinks you either don't like him or don't want him.
