My boyfriend put his hands on me. Should I give him another chance?

We were in a heated argument where he choked me. I beat him up and we have been separated for weeks. He has started to attend anger management classes and we are looking into couples counseling. We have a son together who is 1 1/2 years old.

no. I strongly believe that if a man puts his hands on a women she should not only stand up for herself but realize that this is not a loving or respectful relationship. The same also goes for women I don't think a woman should ever put her hands violently on a man. So to me, it don't care how long youve been with a person the moment that relationship becomes volatile there are feelings of resentment and for the most part that relationship is doomed to fail.

People can become addicted to people like drugs and when you become overtaken by that raw powerful emotion you can literally become consumed with it and aggressive and possessive the moment that happens it is all downhill.

This is the way I look at it, yes, I believe that people can change but they have to change before it crosses that line because just as easily as one heated argument turned into him choking you it could turn into an even more drastic extreme next time.

I think the only reason you should think about staying is because of your son. But if he did it once, chances are kind of high that he will do it again even if he says he won't. As all the others said, if the classes help then great, but if you see one slightest hint of violence from him towards you or your baby, then leave as fast as you can!

If the anger managment is working for him, then maybe, just maybe he'll get another chance. BUT ONE THING I KNOW IS "NEVER BRING YOUR CHILD UP WITH DOMESTICS". Don't let your child suffer OK. Personally, I think it's best to let the guy go.

Despite you sharing a child together, I'd be dumping him and getting out of there.

Sure he might get something out of Anger Management however get out, keep safe and protect your child from both him as well as a hostile environment.

Him getting a potential cure to his hostility needs to be secondary and wait til that's well and truly proven - who knows if it's either likely or how long it will take. Keep safe first.

Give him ONE chance to prove to you he isn't abusive and aggressive by letting time tell. Violence on his part and your part is never the answer. The best communication is verbal. Physical altercations never lead to anything good. Think about your son. He deserves to be raised in a healthy environment.

If the classes and the counseling work that's great but if he ever lays hands on you again you take that baby and go. Neither you nor that baby deserve to deal with that.

You should leave, but run wisely. Make sure you secretly start putting away funds, etc.
