What does it mean if my boyfriend says I'm suffocating him?

So me and my boyfriend have been together for almost 4 years. We're really happy with each other but the only thing is, every year he goes through this phase where he feels suffocated by me. A few days ago he told me that he wants a "me" day, where basically we don't contact one another at all for a whole day. I know this really shouldn't bother me but it does because I feel that the more I spend time with him the happier I am where as for him, the more we spend time together the more suffocated he feels. Is this a bad thing or is that just how guys are?

guys need their own space, to do guys things. there's nothing like a nagging girlfriend around all the time and having to do with everything you do. yes its nice to do things with your other but its also nice to jsut be with friends, or be alone and do things you haven't been able to do when with your other. for guys it could be going and watching sports, going to sports games, getting drinks somewhere, even just having a guys night having bbq. girls don't quite understand things because they always have a need to be with their hubby because it makes you feel closer, guys aren't so much like that. guys need their own time to release some energy and tension from a relationship. I know if a girl texts me or calls me all the time the "fire" dies rather quickly, its always nice to learn something new and have new things to talk about after you haven't seen each other for a few days, you aren't married so I don't think you two should be too involved but involved enough to still feel close. guys have bad days just like girls do and we need our days off too, not going to a spa but other things for the day. its odd and confusing how the opposite gendar works, but it makes for a more interesting relationship also

guys are just like this. They need their time, but they also need you. Luckily for you, it seems he doesn't need that much guy time and you need to let him have it. When he comes back to you, you will see that he hasn't changed, but he will be happy. This is completely normal and it's just the same when you feel like you wanna be with your friends rather than your bf.

I think it's a bit scary that you've contacted each other every day for 4 years. I think it would be healthy to take a day (more like a few days) and just not contact each other. Spend time with other friends, catch up on some hobbies, go to the spa, read some books, etc.

Yes all guys like their space and alone time and also hanging out with their friends without their girlfriend nagging/calling all the time. When a girl calls too much, talks to much and just goes on and on, its REALLY annoying!
