That generation lives in an entirely different universe to younger people. I remember it from my parents and their friends - the whole generation (at least in the west) essentially was allowed EVERYTHING they could possibly think of, and then some. Then they set out to move the boundaries further for those of their own generation who were socially not accepted - chiefly to allow what was traditionally sexual deviance, LGBT.
To them, getting their whole generation fully accepted (since they were all buddies in a way, including with the other side of the Iron curtain) takes precedence over anything related to anyone younger.
The thinking is that THEY are the ones running out of time, and so the rest of us are overprivileged simply by being younger, so we should all be firmly somewhere at the back of the queue until they get all that they wanted (and then some).
One can only hope there is a place in their thinking that considers sanity preservation important (things like science, facts, freedom of opinion and heterosexuality leading to having a family)

It's over used, and very rarely actually pointed at the baby boomer generation. It's simply a dismissal of what someone says because you disagree with the logic. Rather than actually arguing it, or saying you dismiss it, you dismiss the person and anything they would have to say as antiquated.

As a boomer sometimes it's irritating but some people my age are really snarky toward young adults. I think the connotation is that all boomers are closed minded, grumpy, racist people. It does describe some of us but not all of us.

After going to a SuperM concert a reporter from the local newspaper wrote a scathing report of the concert. I think as a sport reporter he didn't want to be there in the first place. He basically said anyone over 18 who went should rethink their priorities if they go to kpop concerts. That didn't go over too well since some of the fans were as old as their 60s and maybe 70s. He wrote other negative things and then the Twitter fight started. He got called a racist, boomer among other things. He wasn't that kind back either.

Words can divide on both sides of the age spectrum.

Boomers officially end at 1964 which would be someone who is 54 so anyone younger is not a boomer.

Sorry but I don't get that joke.

I have never heard that expression and I have no idea what it really means or when it is supposed to be used.

Is it an expression from the 20th. century in reference to the baby boomers?

The only relation to a boomer I am aware of is the one of a person in the Air Force that operates the boom that refuels the aircraft in flight with the use of a boom from a tanker aircraft, just like in the picture below.

I honestly think it's pretty stupid. Like, okay? What's wrong with being a "boomer"? What's so insulting about that name? How is it supposed to be offensive? It's just a generation.

It seems like the people who use it think they're being really clever, but it just comes off as a pathetic attempt at an insult, like they couldn't do any better than that. Kind of like when a little kid throws a tantrum and calls you a butthead or something similar.

If someone's retort to me was "Ok Millennial", I would just laugh and think they were upset because they were losing an argument with me or something I said struck a nerve and the shoe fit. I've actually had a few online strangers say "Ok Boomer" to me, which I find comical considering I'm only 24 years old.

We have enough polarizing memes in the world.
I'm disgusted at how shocked people are that the people we're passive aggressive to are passive aggressive back at us.

I'd prefer if someone could culturally find a way to bridge the gaps between people..
    Not push us further apart.

Generations are retarded. People are born nonstop, 365 days every year, not in large generational clumps with consistent social and political views. What generation you are is as arbitrary a distinction as your zodiac sign.

Its quite a underhanded technique in debates, but anyone who is a reasonable debater can easily dismantle such a technique if its a genuine debate. Usually its just people being childish and unwilling to listen.

I think it makes younger people look childish because it's a copout, an admission that we can't beat older people on the facts. Too many millennials don't feel like they should have to argue things out on their merits. So instead, they pout and give a 'whatever' response.

I don't think it's as serious as people make it out to be. Old people make Jokes at the expense of millenals for years. But suddenly it's 'ageist' to do the same with them? That being said I don't think it's that funny tbh.

Ageism is on both ends. Young people are told they don't know anything and old people are told they don't know anything. We have a lot in common.

It's stupid and illogical. It is dismissing someone based upon age, not upon the basis of the topic at hand. It also helps explain why my generation is so easily manipulated by emotionalism rather than logic.

The point is to dismiss them by age in a way that actually creates offense. Dismissal of someone's opinions, conclusions, or research has always occured based on age; just the other way around. The retort "okay boomer" levels the playing field when used correctly.(e. g: person1 "youre too young to understand"
Person 2 "okay boomer,") in this case what person 2 has to say is already being dismissed by age and not being taken into account or even considdered.
Another example is "you're not an adult therefore..."

I say okay boomer to more millennials and gen x than actual boomers.

every time i have been called boomer or grandpa or old timer here it was used soley as an insult and never because i said the person was too young to know but i do appreciate that does happen here and in that case its more understandable. the proble is though, it asumes a stereotype that just doesn't exist in many of us

I am a boomer. I think it encapsulates many, not all, Millennials. It is simplistic, requires little thought, and shuts down intelligent discourse. Perfect for today’s generation.
