What would you do if your best friend started smoking weed (or other drugs) and was hiding it from you?

Holaa well I can't sleep, so I was like the last 2+ hours on intsa and now I landed on here lmao

To keep this short, two weeks ago a friend saw my bestie and her friend smoking a joint

He drove by and he did get out of the car to say hello, she begged him not to tell me but yeah this dude is hella weird but he is telling me a lot
.. Anyways since he is the only honest person towards me, I won't betray him and say he said it
but I started paying attention to the people she is hanging out with lately (I know both girls and I know that they definitely do smoke) and yeah she did probably start smoking regularly

The thing is I wouldn't mind, it's not my cup of tea but it's her life not mine... but I'm annoyed at the fact that she is going out of her way to hide it from me and she probably already lied about it.. so that's not cool right?

She's most likely hiding it cause she's worried you're gonna judge her, or think badly about her, don't take it personal, it means she cares what you think about her.

It is a bit unusual if she's your best friend. But of all things... it is drugs, and it still depends quite a bit on where you live on the globe, as to how much stigma is still attached to something like cannabis.

Where I live, it's legal recreationally, has been for a while, and guess what, the country hasn't fallen into disarray. Not at all. And look at Portugal, a rousing success in their attempts at combating all recreational drug use.

So we have no way of knowing whether her "begging" you not be told, speaks more about her, or you, or where you live.
If you really think it's no big deal (which I would agree), just tell her you found out and you don't hold the cannabis against her, but you're a bit sad that she felt she had to keep it from you. (But then you can't lord it over her and demean her for it, lest she will be right in her misgivings and instinct.)

Well if it were me, I'd understand why she's hiding it and I'd tell her to stop because it's like super illegal where I'm from and live. But considering you're not here. Well, I have a license to pester my best friends so I will say something about it... I would not like it if they feel like they have to lie or hide something from me, especially if it just weed... I would be wondering what do they need to hide this, that is the part that I would be a bit concerned about.

But if there's more, something really stupid like heroine, crack or some of those synthetic compounds, then I will try to get them out of that and those people they're hanging out with.

Lots of my friends smoke weed. Thats why the majority are ex friends now. I dont care as much what they do but if its a significant other and theyre doing that, i’d be mad. I refused to date a pothead again after my first ex.

You have to notify the DEA immediately. They may request to know who her dealer is and that’s where you really can get involved. They may set you up with a wire and when you’re talking with your friend, have her tell you who her dealer is. If you can get her to admit that she had intent to distribute then that’ll get you a bigger reward for your efforts but your friend will get more prison time. Then your job will be done. Lots of my friends smoked when I was young. Some did al kinds of drugs. Sometimes it was weird and a lot of times I just stopped hanging around with them because it just got too weird. It changed them some how.
If it was a girlfriend I would probably think about dumping her because of the drugs and also for the deceit.

If they were just smoking pot, I think it's pretty harmless. If I found out they were using hard drugs then I would try and talk them out of it.

weed i wouldn't care. I've done it twice to see what the big deal was. not for me but it didn't have any real effect.

meth coke pills etc I would have issue with those are artificial drugs and can fry your brain on overdose on. i don't think u can overdose on weed. probably be real hard.

Personally I wouldn't like it, but it's their life, I don't have the right to dictate what they do.
But I wouldn't want to be around when theyre smoking, I don't like the smell.
When they're not with me, they're free to do it.
So if they're hiding it, I wouldn't mind as much.

I had a friend he had serious pain while working on movie sets and started taking oxi pain killers got addicted to it. Then from that started weed and then from weed even heavy stuff. Some people are just easy addicted to anything. If you are usually like that then you will have problems other then that. A bit weed never killed anyone.

The risks of that occurring are less than astronomical. But hypothetically if he started doing that I would enact some serious tough love and make sure his family knew as well as all of us (his friends) so as to support him out of it.

well there's a good chance the reason she's hiding it is because she still values your friendship and worries she'll end up losing you if she told you what she's doing. You could try talking to her and asking if she's doing it, and tell her that if she is, it's not a deal breaker for your friendship.

Weed I don't care about. Pretty much everyone I know smokes weed. If it was something that was dangerous, then I'd come to them with my concerns

Cannabis I wouldn't care about as it's legal here. Other drugs I wouldn't be so accepting about though as they are illegal and more dangerous. I might try to get them to consider getting help.
